UK Kung Fu incorporates a variety of self-defence techniques such as kicking, blocking, striking and punching.

There are two sides to the style that make up the whole. Firstly the physical side will prepare the children with numerous ideas and concepts to develop their bodies and give them techniques that will heighten their overall awareness. This will be in the form of patterns of movement (forms), which will strengthen the body and speed up reactions. This will also be in the form of sparring using both

Our children's classes in full swing. The key to a successful class is high energy, discipline and focus. All our coaches lead from the front, which in turn develops their own skills and learning.

I remain fully committed to maintaining the highest possible standards in training, coaching, safeguarding, and professional development at the UK Kung fu School
I believe that wellbeing and safety must sit at the centre of everything we do. For this reason, the instructors continually invest time and effort into obtaining recognised training, certifications, and safeguarding standards that support a safe, professional, and supportive environment for all students.
It is important to emphasise that much of this work is undertaken voluntarily. However, we believe that holding ourselves to the highest standards is not optional when working with children, young people, and adults in a coaching environment.
Our commitment is clear: to remain proactive, responsible, and fully compliant with recognised coaching and safeguarding expectations, ensuring that every member of our school can train in a safe, respectful, and professionally managed environment.
These values guide everything we do and will continue to shape the standards we uphold at the UK Kung fu School

I continue to invest in developing both my own training and the standards at the UK Kung Fu School. Much of this work isn’t compulsory, but I strongly believe that anyone teaching martial arts should hold themselves to the highest possible standards.
At present there is very little regulation around coaching martial arts. Personally, I believe there should be at least a basic level in place to protect students and maintain quality. Until that day comes, I’ll continue to make sure our school meets and exceeds the standards that should exist.

Happy Lunar New Year to all our students and families at the UK Kung Fu School 🧧🐎

Today marks the beginning of the rare Year of the Fire Horse — a powerful combination that comes only once every 60 years. This is a year of intensity, momentum and transformation. In the martial arts, we speak often about balance: courage with restraint, power with control, speed with awareness. The Fire Horse embodies all of these lessons.

This year will amplify boldness, drive and determination. It rewards those who step forward with purpose, while reminding us that true strength comes from focus and discipline. If there is something you have been on the edge of — a goal, a challenge, a new level in your training, or something in life you have been waiting to begin — this is the year to move.

Plan with care. Train with intent. Then act with courage.

In kung fu, progress comes from consistent effort and the willingness to step beyond comfort. The Fire Horse encourages us to do exactly that: to trust our training, support one another, and move forward with clarity and confidence. Be bold in action, but measured in mind and spirit.

May this year bring growth in your practice, strength in your character, and success in your endeavours. Train hard, stay focused, and support your fellow students — together we make progress.

Wishing you all health, resilience and prosperity in the Year of the Fire Horse.

Kung Fu spirit, always.

This weekend, our UK Kung Fu School instructors and junior coaching team completed their first aid training again.

Safety, professionalism, and care are at the heart of everything we do. While much of this compliance is voluntary, it includes DBS checks, safeguarding, trauma-aware practice, concussion awareness, policy and inclusion training.

We’re proud to uphold the highest coaching standards for all our students at the UK Kung Fu School.

I am pleased to share my continued professional development in martial arts is both in and out of the training hall. I have now completed Mental Health First Aid for Martial Artists to assist me in the coaching environment.

Our older juniors class remain absolutely focussed on task. Managing conflict comes with its challenges, particularly when there is a weapon involved. Observation skills by the group here helps everyone to learn as they feed back.

At the UK Kung fu School, we do not just teach kicks and punches; we instil confidence, resilience, and leadership. Our journey is not about medals or competition, but about the lives we shape and the leaders we nurture.

True leadership is not just about leading; it's about building leaders. Many of our young people have become instructors, mentors, and role models, not just in the training environment but in life.

Our core belief is simple: to evolve martial arts, each generation must surpass the last. This requires continually raising the bar in technique, attitude, discipline, and leadership.

We're proud to invest in the next wave of talent, providing them the tools and space to grow. The UK Kung fu School legacy isn't just a legacy of martial arts; it's a legacy of shaping capable adults and empowering future leaders.

Of the parents I have spoken to, they have shared the impact of their children learning and how is has changed their approach to school, learning, attitudes at home and physical and emotional well being.

Training children in martial arts is more than just punching and kicking. Taking time to focus on self, breath and calming the mind is equally important. These are the lessons which resonate both out side of class and through to adulthood.

Our juniors learning Yin Shou Gun, a traditional staff form from the Shaolin Temple. This group of young people are some of the best I have taught. They are constantly driving their standard and always so eager to learn.
