A wonderful day. A big thank you to for leading the Ayurveda and Yoga Workshop today.
A return visit from Jo, she talked us through the basics of Ayurvedic principles and gave us practical nutrition and lifestyle advice to incorporate into our everyday lives. We worked through a yoga practice to support Ayurvedic balance.

Jill’s been moonlighting. Her CV now reads yoga teacher and fashion model !

Working towards Paryankasana - making space in the shoulders, keeping length in the spine, opening the chest and a great quad workout.

Simple yet oh so strong. An afternoon spent sitting down…. Dandasana is deceptive. To activate the legs, keep the lower back lifting and keep the arms extended and straight. Not as easy as it looks. All the muscle groups are playing a part. Oh and the small matter of remembering to breathe.
A great late afternoon session on our retreat working into some more restful forward bends.

Jill leading the way to our annual Cheshire Yoga retreat in the glorious Hay-on-Wye. We are thrilled to be back at Wye Valley Yoga, the most beautifully restored Salem chapel turned yoga space, which is fully equipped for Iyengar yoga.
We are so pleased to have so many returning students with us together with some new faces. We adore the Cheshire Yoga community and its spirit. So here’s to a fun-filled, yoga-packed weekend.

Awesome effort from the whole gang today. We had some huge milestones today with everyone really hitting their stride with Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand). There has been a huge amount of work over the weeks, months and years gradually building the strength, control and belief that this pose was achievable. Working on hands, wrists, upper arms, shoulders, legs…..the list goes on. I am super, super proud of everyone today.

“Liberating neck and shoulders” at Saturday Social Yoga this morning.
A chance to focus on releasing the tension which we all hold in our neck and shoulders and improving our posture. We are all guilty of drooping shoulders, hang-dog neck and closed chests in our everyday life, whether looking at phones or sitting at a desk. We spent a lovely couple of hours becoming aware of that and then understanding the steps to correct that posture. Releasing the neck, working the trapezius muscles, engaging the rhomboids and abdominal muscles - it was a busy morning. But the rewards were great posture and a delicious breakfast to follow.

How kind of everyone to co-ordinate their outfits today as we worked in Parsvakonasana. 😂
Using bricks, the wall and the ropes to understand the length and extension in the side waist, as well as the opening of the chest. We used this as a stepping stone to Parvritta Parsvakonasana.
So strength, flexibility, concentration all rolled into one. And the heart rates were elevated as well. Really strong, powerful work building stamina and resilience
poses.

We always say yoga is for EVERYONE. And Graham proves the point. Celebrating his 90th birthday and winning with Virabhadrasana 2 (the Warrior Pose). In Iyengar Yoga, we use props to enable everyone to gain the benefits of movement, balance, strength and focus which Yoga brings. And this rings true whatever age you are.

A relaxing end to a busy week of standing poses. We have been exploring Virabhadrasana 1 and 3 (warrior poses) in particular and working the legs hard to give us control and stability.
Really looking forward to the Ropes workshop this weekend - pictures to follow.

Walked across this little beauty today but wasn't brave enough for any yoga poses up there 😂 I would like to say that yoga helped me conquer my fear of heights on the amazing Caminito del Rey. But in reality the link to yoga is my wonderful friend and student, Fiona, who advised me to take the time to travel along "the walk of death" in Andalusia. An amazing experience.

Working on the quadriceps in Supta Virasana. There are various stages to this pose depending on one’s flexibility in the quads. But the Thursday morning crew were loving the stretch this morning.

Creating space in hanging/flying Uttanasana. Took a bit of persuading but the benefits are there to see.
We all need time and space and making that space to come to Iyengar yoga and then making the space in your body is invaluable.

An early morning goodbye to Paxos today after our wonderful retreat. We are back in the studio from Monday and can’t wait to see everyone.
We have done 23 hours of yoga classes this week and that opportunity just to explore and take time with the poses has been so precious and valuable. We are so lucky.
And now we are armed with lots of ideas and approaches to share with you all, as well as boat loads of enthusiasm. 😂

Uttitha hasta padangustasana with a view. And what a view. 😊
We are working hard on Retreat. It was hips, standing poses and standing twists yesterday. 8-10.30am every morning and 5-6.30pm for 6 days. You really get the chance to build your understanding of the poses and your body. And the heat helps !!
Building on all our practice in the UK at Cheshire Yoga, we are taking the time to go that little bit deeper. A really rewarding experience.
