Today saw the end of the BBLTC 2026 summer tournament. Coach Andrew Farley did an excellent job of marshalling a great number of club members throughout the last few weeks.

The finals day was blessed with warm sunshine, which helped create a great atmosphere.

And the winners were:

Ladies’ singles - Liz Baker
Men’s singles - Tom Sutton
Ladies’ doubles - Dettin Starbuck and Claire Thompson
Men’s doubles - Duncan Hurlstone and Tom Sutton
Mixed doubles - Stuart and Ella Thwaites
Boys’ U18 - Max Tiddy
Girls’ U18 - Sreeniithi Lama

There were winners of consolation plates.

Well done to all who participated.

Many thanks to those who helped on the day, including the umpires. Joyce Gatoff kept the tea flowing and encouraged members to bake cakes. Ronnie Maclean oversaw the barbecue with help from Nick Hill and Liz Waller.

Coach Maria Herrera managed activities for the younger members.

If you helped and didn’t get a mention, then apologies, there were so many people who contributed.

On Wednesday, some of our incredibly lucky members were guests at Wimbledon to celebrate the club's centenary. A group of eight were chosen to play (as long as they were exclusively dressed in white) whilst the others spectated.

There was a tour of the club, afternoon tea and a cocktail party.

What a lovely day representing the club.

A lovely neat 8 out for social tennis tonight, with some pleasant gentle tennis in the 30° early evening temperature.

Last Sunday saw our mini Louden tournament with 12 brave entrants (perfect number) who enjoyed the warm spring sunshine.

There were 6 couples with a handicap in place.

Close scoring led to two semi-finals:

Mike Moore and Karen McCann played Neil Moore and Sophie Joyce

Tony Hall and Kathy Calderbank played Nick Hill and Barbara Clift

The decider was a chamionship (1 point) tie break whichw as won by Nick and Barbara.

Great work by everyone. Nick kept things running (with a bit of help from me), whilst teas were provided with some home made biscuits from Karen.

Finals Day has started. Hopefully the weather will stay dry for some wonderful tennis throughout the day. Burgers and cakes available later on.

Many thanks to coach Andrew for his excellent work in keeping everyone on track for the past few weeks. Something akin to herding frogs!
