🐴 Pony Spotlight – Murphy 🐴

Meet the lovely Murphy! ❤️

Age: 16 years old
Height: 15.2hh
Job: Riding School Superstar

Murphy is one of our lovely riding school horses and is a real superstar! At 16 years old, he's been around the block a few times and has plenty of experience, but he still gives his all for his riders every time he goes out.

Murphy is such a sweet boy and absolutely loves a cuddle and a fuss. He is one of those horses who is very happy to stand and have someone spend some time with him, and he's always very pleased to see you – especially if you've got food! 😂

And when it comes to food, Murphy is not fussy! He will pretty much eat anything you put in front of him. He does have a couple of particular favourites though, with radish and watermelon being very high on his list! 🍉

One of Murphy's favourite things to do is hacking. He loves getting out and about and enjoying a change of scenery, and it's something he really seems to enjoy.

Despite being a fairly big boy at 15.2hh, Murphy has a lovely nature and is such a kind, genuine horse. He always tries his best for his riders and has helped lots of people enjoy their riding and gain confidence.

Murphy also has a very special best friend – a little 12hh pony! 🥰 The two of them are the most unlikely pair, but they absolutely love each other and are often found keeping each other company.

Murphy really is such a lovely boy and a very important part of our riding school team. We are very lucky to have him! ❤️

Meet the lovely Coco! 🤎

At 28 years young, Coco is one of our golden oldies – but don't let her age fool you! She still has plenty to give and is an incredibly special member of the Shardeloes family.

Coco is owned by Rossway RDA, and she really does have the perfect temperament for the job. Kind, patient and incredibly trustworthy, she always seems to know exactly what her rider needs and takes such wonderful care of them. 💚

For many years, Coco was also our perfect "first canter" pony. Countless riders have experienced those exciting first canter strides with Coco looking after them every step of the way!

As she's gotten older, we've gradually reduced her workload and changed her job to suit her. These days, she's the perfect pony for children taking that big step towards riding independently off the lead rein. She's steady, sensible and gives her riders the confidence to start doing things for themselves while still making them feel safe.

Coco really is the sweetest pony, both ridden and on the ground, and she has a very cute little giveaway when she's been given a treat! If you see her licking her lips and giving you her very best Coco "smile", you can be fairly certain someone has been spoiling her! 😂🍬

At 28, Coco may be taking life a little easier these days, but she continues to give so much to her riders and is exactly the sort of pony you can trust to take care of them. 🐴💚

🌟 Pony Spotlight – Cobweb 🌟

Meet the one and only Cobweb! 🤍

🐴 Age: 26 years old

⭐ Job: Children’s Pony & Professional Escape Artist

At 11.2hh, Cobweb is our second smallest resident, but don't let his little legs fool you – this pony has a BIG personality!

At the grand age of 26, Cobweb is an absolute pro at his job. He's a fantastic children's pony, foot perfect and quite literally the definition of bombproof. Nothing really fazes him, and he's brilliant at looking after even the littlest of riders.

This also makes him the perfect model for the girls, who have great fun dressing him up for photoshoots and TikToks! Cobweb is happy to go along with pretty much anything they come up with – hats, costumes, props... as long as there's a Polo waiting for him at the end, he really doesn't care! 😂🍬

He's actually become a bit of a social media star himself and has gone viral on TikTok more than once. Unfortunately, this has done absolutely nothing to help his already rather large ego. 😂

When he's not busy teaching children or enjoying his internet fame, Cobweb has another particular talent... escaping from fields. 🙈 If there's a way out, Cobweb will find it, and he's certainly kept us on our toes with his adventures over the years!

He's also VERY particular about his daily routine. Breakfast is served at breakfast time – and absolutely NOT 0.01 seconds later. If it's late, Cobweb will happily bang on his stable door to remind everyone that the service around here simply isn't good enough. 😂

Cheeky, clever and full of character, Cobweb may be one of our golden oldies, but age certainly hasn't made him any less mischievous!

He's a wonderful little pony who has looked after countless children over the years, and we're very lucky to have him as part of the Shardeloes family. 💚🐴

The Rossway RDA are based here at Shardeloes Farm EC, they own Coco, Molly, Harvey and Pippin.

Rossway RDA is entirely funded by the generous donations of people and companies like you. They keep riding fees as low as possible, but vets bills, shoeing, insurance and the specialised equipment they need are ongoing costs which are expensive.

The Rossway Group is one of the founding groups within The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). Formed in 1968, RosswayRDA provides unique opportunities for people with all forms of disabilities – physical and cognitive – through riding therapy.

Riding gives people with limited mobility the chance to stretch and move muscles in a way that may not be possible with other forms of exercise. The rider’s position in the saddle and the movement of the horse is a therapy in itself, improving balance, co-ordination and muscle tone. Riding also gives a great sense of freedom and the empathy, which develops between their riders and horses, is lovely to see. Confidence often improves, along with increased self-esteem and well-being.

Pony Club Residential Camp day 2!

Another photo dump from day 2 of our residential camp, we are missing the holidays already 🥲Day 2 was a hot one, the girls were up at 0630 to get their ponies in early doors and go for a hack before it got too hot! After a lovely hack, they tended to their ponies and then we visited our neighbours at Woodrow High House and Leisure Centre for a swim! Great timing with the hot weather.

The evening was full of water fights, on-foot chase me charlie, scrapbooking and cheesy horse movies, followed by a special guest for a midnight snack!
