There's now less than six weeks until Ride The North, so, we really need to get our finger out, with the fundraising and the training.

150km/93 miles of hilly road cycling is not something either of us have ever indulged.

Why would we?!

Well, the turn of the year brought the sad news of the passing of Jason's old friend Scott to su***de.

Those who know Scott know him as a jolly sort, one who'd never walk past you. Always a (frankly, sh*te) joke to share with you while he was there.

We wanted to raise funds for men's mental health activity in the local area. Men's mental health specifically because we know men represent 73% of all su***des in Scotland, and that 44% of people die who die by su***de are around Scott's age.

And Reach Across, because they're not about statistics. An amazing local charity made up of real local people with their own experiences, supporting the local families, friends and loved ones of people just like Scott. They hold an open door to anyone affected by su***de.

Run entirely by volunteers and public donations, their efforts in su***de prevention and support are invaluable to our local community.

Ride the North because it is a challenge. One with a similar sense of 'together' as Reach Across.

We have just shy of six weeks to get ready and a huge £1000 target.

📢 Public Service Announcement 📢

We don't usually close for lunch, but today has been a day! Note the time.

Your local bike shop is delighted to be so well supported. And this is the second time we've spoken about this lately, but:

We're not so enthused by the regular "I know you're probably mad busy just now, but I've got a charity event on Sunday and my bike has been lying in the garage for five years and could probably do with a service" kinda chat.

And most definitely not at the suggestion we're just being "dicks".

Listen, we get it. And we know that you know we don't want to let anyone down, but currently we are *FULLY BOOKED* into the first week of August.

As always, we continue to accommodate *emergencies*, you know, like sudden puncture repairs, a wee chain coming off as you happen to be passing, sort of emergencies.

But, we operate a booking system. Some of those bookings have been there for weeks. And we're definitely not gonna let them down in favour of anyone who has booked an event months ago, and chosen today to pull their bike out of the shed, expecting any bike shop mechanic ever, to fit them in at the height of summer.

Indeed, most would probably have some special four letter names for you too! 🤷🏻‍♀️

🚲 Sadly, that's what happened to the owner of the first of two CDFs to make their way home this week. He loves a bike tour, and a steel frame, but he's camera shy (his new steed is not so coy). He absolutely adored his previous CDF, so this CDF 20 with Reynolds 725 tubeset and aaaaaall the points for aaaaaall the racks and luggage and bottle cages was a winner. That and he actually prefers this colour to his last, so.....

🛞 Riding mostly tarmac and very light gravel we swapped out the factory issue Maxxis Ramblers for a set of slick Schwalbe G-One Speed Evolution, Super Ground for less nobble/more speed on smooth surfaces on request.

🗺️ And we can't wait to hear about it's first big adventure!

The quietest country roads , interrupted only by Kelly's singing, leading us to much needed ice-cream in Edzell.

Mind the 27.5 Ridegback's 'kids' bikes.....?

Well, when we wrote the ticket for hanging aff the handles, we described it as "For, big tweens, teens and teeny adults", because apart from it's size, it's also a proper looker and a super affordable small adults bike that would suit our more petite pedallers.

In strolls our shortest adult rider to date looking for a simple bike for riding "absolutely zero hills, ever".

Having returned to cycling in her study year in Korea (jealous much?), she wanted an affordable bike that fits.

With her standing much below the 162cm of the smallest adult equivalent, The Dimension 27.5 was just the ticket for pootling about the city without fear of falling from height or being unable to reach the brakes.

The 8 speed Shimano Essa groupset means this skint smaller student needn't worry about unnecessarily expensive maintenance costs either. Faster rolling tyres than it's off road MX twin, are perfect for the tarmac too!

And she's off!!

You know when you're stuck indoors fixing the bikes everyone wants to ride in this heat(?!), hearing everyone bemoaning said heat which is actually not all that different inside than it is out, 'cause we live in a country where the buildings are designed to retain heat, and your shop windows are mahoosive and the sun blazes right in, and even the usually cauld workshop where the bikes are getting fixed is sweltering and you tell yourself all day that really it's much too hot to be riding your bike for any sort of enjoyable distance anyways.......

And then it comes to evening time and everyone else is wiped from the heat and it's a wee smidge cooler and you get aaaall the roads to yourself.
