Kent Gliding Centre Realise your flying dreams and learn to fly a glider with Kent Gliding Club. On a clear day you can see Southend and the coast of France in one 360° turn.

Most of us will have looked up on a summer's day and seen the gentle, graceful turn of a sailplane high in the sky. The fascination of silent flight, seeking thermals and climbing up to the clouds is not easily described. Nor is the achievement of managing to stay high in the sky, without an engine, for an hour or more. Above Challock there are magnificent views over the North Downs and the Weald of Kent. From your very first lesson, with an intructor to guide you, you are "hands on", and in the ensuing flights you will gradually learn how the controls work, coordination of the stick and rudder, keeping the wings level and making gentle, graceful turns. All of your training leads to your first goal - going solo. Once you are flying well and consistently, the big day arrives and after several check flights your instructor sends you off on your own. They say the best landing you ever make is on your first solo flight! Enjoy a glider flight.

Big congratulations to Junior member George for going solo on Sunday in one of our k21s! 🎉✈️Not a bad day to do it!

Slightly Missed the airfield… well no worries all part of the learning process and thank goodness for the amazingly helpful team that selflessly came out to rescue Patrick from his first out-landing today! After encountering the feared blue skies and sink route back home from a task. Patrick says his glider will be inspected sooner or later once he re-rigs so we wish him the best for that 🤞

Pizza time! Big thanks to James and his wife for bringing along their pizza kit to provide a lovely dinner to celebrate an amazing day of tasking and fun in the sun and to raise money for the Air Ambulance! And an additional well done to all pilots who managed to hold their own against the sea breeze fronts today.

Mmmmmmnn

James preparing his world class pizzas in the golden hours

A lovely sunset with the trailers to end the day

It is scientifically proven that nothing can top this.

A fun and exhilarating first day of our annual Task Week at Kent Gliding Centre.

Our club members were set competitive goals ranging from over 300km for our seasoned veterans to more modest local tasks for the newer pilots.

Energy levels were high on a cracking day for flying, and the club bar was buzzing at the end of the day, with stories swapped of the day’s adventures in the skies.
