Wissenden Lodge

One of the comments we hear most often from guests at Wissenden Lodge is how much they love the beautiful, uninterrupted countryside views. 🌿

When we moved our bookings to Holiday Cottages, it was suggested that we fence in the decking to make it more secure for guests bringing dogs. However, we made the decision to keep the decking open-and 99% of our guests agree that preserving those wonderful views was the right choice.

If you bring a dog to stay, we simply ask that they remain secure at all times-either safely inside the Lodge with you or on a lead when outdoors. Many of our guests bring an extra-long lead so their dogs can still relax and explore while remaining safe.

We ask this partly to preserve the open views for everyone, as many guests do not bring dogs, but more importantly because Wissenden is a working farm. Even the best fencing is never completely secure, and we would hate for either your animals or ours to be frightened or hurt.

✨ One of the things I love most about living here... is the peace and quiet. ✨

Living just up the driveway from Wissenden Lodge means I often hear the same sounds our guests do.

Most evenings, the sound is... nothing at all. Just the gentle rustle of the trees and birds settling down for the night.

Occasionally, though, the silence is broken by something rather special...

🔔 The beautiful sound of the church bells as the bell ringers practise at St Michael's Church in Smarden.

🦁 On a still evening, you might even hear the distant roar of a lion from The Big Cat Sanctuary.

🚂 Or, if you listen carefully, the faint sound of a train passing through Pluckley Station.

It's amazing how peaceful the countryside can be, and it's one of the things our guests comment on time and time again.

If you're looking for somewhere to slow down, unwind and simply enjoy the tranquillity of the Kent countryside, Wissenden Lodge could be just the place. 🌿💚

The moon was absolutely beautiful last night. 🌕

One of the things I love about living out here is just how clear our skies can be. Away from all the bright lights, there’s always something rather special to see — whether it’s a beautiful sunset, a sky full of stars or, like last night, the moon shining between the Lodges.

Just one of the little things that makes a stay in the countryside so special. ❤️

Feeling productive today! 😊

I’ve been busy in Mrs B’s Kitchen preparing some homemade treats ready to welcome today's guests.

Freshly baked white bread, creamy butter, strawberry & raspberry jam, marmalade, and a little bottle of elderflower cordial are all ready and waiting… I then just had to add a bottle of milk.

It's the little touches that help make a stay feel extra special, and we hope our guests enjoy every bite. 🏡🍓🍞🌿

There’s something rather magical about a pink evening sky 💕

At last, we’ve had a little rain, giving the grass a much-needed drink. The cows and horses are contentedly grazing, and all you can hear are the occasional moos, quacks and birdsong drifting across the farm ❤️

This isn’t quite the view from the Lodge itself, but it’s just a short stroll up the farm track—and moments like these are all part of the peace and tranquillity that make staying here so special.

As many of you know, I love learning new things 😊 And whilst I obviously don’t live in the Lodge, it’s always lovely to discover little tips that can help make our guests’ stays even more comfortable.

With this beautiful sunny weather, keeping the Lodge cool has definitely been on my mind ☀️🌿

Here are my top tips:
⭐ Keeping the curtains closed (especially when you’re out) really helps keep the heat out
⭐ Leaving the bathroom and kitchen windows open creates a lovely cooling draft
⭐ And my newest discovery from this morning whilst getting the Lodge ready for guests… opening everything early to enjoy the fresh morning breeze cools the Lodge down so quickly and feels wonderfully refreshing 😊

Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference 💛

What a beautiful evening here at Wissenden Lodge ☀️

All I can hear are the birds singing, feel a warm breeze on my face, and watch the happy cows and horses peacefully grazing nearby 💛

Thanks to the angle of the Lodge, part of the decking is now shaded - making it feel even more magical (and definitely a little cooler 🌿).

After a busy bank holiday weekend, what could be better than sitting back, relaxing, and soaking up views like this? 😊

I love the sunshine and how it always shines into the Lodge, ☀️
However, it also dries out the sofa! So over the last few days I’ve been rubbing a leather balm into it….. a bit darker than intended but ….. now all soaking in before a final buff before our next guests 😊
