📸🏆 AND THE WINNER IS... 🏆📸

We've had some fantastic entries into this month's Cover Photo Competition, but as they say, there can only be ONE winner!! 👀

🥇 Congratulations to our U9s! 💙💛

This brilliant photo was taken just after our youngsters played their first-ever contact rugby matches representing Ashington Rugby Club! 🏉👏

They might look all cute and innocent here, but trust us, that's definitely not the case when they get out on the pitch! 😂💪

A massive thank you to everyone who submitted photos, voted and got involved! It's brilliant to see so many different parts of the club represented, and there were some cracking entries this month!

Our U9s will now take pride of place as our Facebook cover photo for November! 📸🏆

Didn't win this time? Don't worry, we'll be doing it all again next month, so keep those cameras handy! 📸👀

Ashington 12 Alnwick 2s 88

Match report By Paul Tanney

A much changed Ashington who suffered from 2 late cry offs as well as multiple unavailability, lost heavily to a strong Alnwick second team. Ash, despite competing strongly in the tight were no match around the park and out wide for the well drilled visitors passing and off loading game.

With Alnwick leading by 45 points at half time Ash brought on club chairman Kelvin Henderson to make his first team debut at 39 years old, a remarkable achievement!

Ashington, with Arkle back at his preferred scrum half position for the second half started strongly, and veteran Darren Dickinson drove through 2 tackles to score wide out, Arkle converting.

Ash continued to compete for the next 20 minutes with Ashington man of the match Josh Weeks in only his second game since his return, beginning to look like his old self with some strong runs. Dylan McMorn forced his way over for a second try, then a strong Reynolds run was supported by Arkle who was tackled just short of the line.

Shortly afterwards Richardson was tackled into touch 5 metres out after a 30 metre break down the wing and replacement Tom More also showed a willingness to carry the ball, but ultimately Alnwick proved too strong in the final 15 minutes running in four more tries.

Whilst this was a heavy defeat Ashington showed greater commitment than last week but need to improve their availability, and fitness, and cohesion, which can only be achieved through training together.

Ash 2s had a good away win 45-21 in a shortened game.

Next week Ash are away to Blaydon Georgians.

👏🏉 A LITTLE BIT OF CLASS FROM ALNWICK IIs! 👏🏉

We just wanted to give a massive shoutout and thank you to Alnwick RFC for the way they left our changing rooms after today's game! 👏

Not a bit of rubbish in sight, floors swept and the changing rooms left absolutely immaculate!

It's a small gesture, but one that shows a huge amount of respect for the opposition, their facilities and the volunteers who give up their time to keep clubs like ours running.

This is what grassroots rugby is all about! 🤝🏉

Absolute credit to your club, lads! You're welcome back at The Rec anytime! 💙
