Tomorrow The Oak take on Yarnton FC, winners of the OSL Premier Division last season, at home in our final pre season game. Kick off 2pm
We look forward to testing ourselves and seeing where we are prior to the Big Kick Off next Saturday again at home to Graven Hill FC ko 2pm.
The heat has mellowed a bit so will be much better for all concerned but I must congratulate all players, our own and opponents, for the effort they have put in over all the friendlies.
Very impressive
So see you there tomorrow, the shop will be open till 3 30 pm and the pub, I have been assured, will be open too.
So no excuses.

The Chandos Pub Committee have contacted me to see if there is anyone in the OUFC family who might get involved helping on matchdays in the pub, guaranteeing it will be open most post Sat matches.
We all are aware the pub is struggling to get volunteers especially in the holiday period.
If there is anyone please contact me and i will put them in touch with the pub committee for some very basic training.

Wendover FC 3

Today The Oak played their penultimate pre season friendly versus Wendover, a fine side from the ADL.
On yet another steamy afternoon at Oxford Rd both teams I felt cancelled eachother out for most of the game, and it was only the last 15 mins that decided the result.
The pitch, although playable is difficult to play on, so hard and both teams found it hard to keep the ball within the lines a lot of the time.
No lack of effort though and both sides put good shifts in under these trying conditions. Boy was it hot and me for one have had my fill of it.
Nice summer's day please no more roasting temperatures occur late .
We congratulate Wendover on getting their noses infront eventually and wish them all the best in the coming season.
3 x 30 minute periods again today enabling the management to see players for longer.
Today The Oak were without some regulars for various reasons, sadly some on the treatment bench but this game an opportunity for others to impress.
A mixed of youth and experience filled the missing spaces and there was some encouraging signs and things to work on.
Period 1
On 18 mins Wendover opened the scoring against the run of play i felt.
A free kick from edge of the box was curled right into the postage stamp but Micky felt later he should have got closer to it. Bit hard young man.
As I said earlier, both sides huffed and puffed but struggled to create clear chances although Micky probably was the busier keeper.
Period 2
Much the same but I felt The Oak had managed to get that foothold they were looking for and were ratcheting up the pressure on Wendover all over the pitch and finally on 55 mins they broke through. A long cross from the left found Tom Beckett who pulled it down and cut inside and fired the ball towards goal. Too hot for the keeper and it nestled into the net.
1-1 going into the final 30 mins.
Period 3
Now it was anybody's game and both tried but it took a goalkeeping error to nudge Wendover infront when a shot came in and Charlie, now on for the last 15 mins instead of Micky, failed to hold the shot spilling it to an oncoming forward.
Never mind Charlie these things happen and we know you will learn from it.
The 3rd Wendover goal was not the greatest moment for The Oak defence as with 7 mins to go they were caught out and it saw The Oak defenders running towards their own goal.
Charlie came halfway, in hindsight probably not the thing to do, making it easier for the forward to chip it over him which he did.
But what do I know and Charlie is young and days like today will only make him stronger.
So a 3-1 defeat but no doom and gloom after as lots of positives and when we start playing on green rather than brown our patterns of play will be more effective.
The boys on treatment bench is worrying, some quite lengthy absences I fear, but it means opportunities for others to step up as I know they will.

Tomorrow The Oak are at home again taking on Wendover FC from the Aylesbury and District League in the 5th of our pre season friendlies.
KO 2pm.
Do come along if you can.
Sadly, the shop cannot stay open after 1pm so I suggest you get there early to get your match day refreshments.
The Chandos will, however, be open from 3pm so see you all there for a post match tipple.
