It’s always a pleasure to welcome the Lionesses to Ostlers Field and our olde friends didn’t disappoint with a fantastic showcase of Women’s Rugby for the crowd to enjoy.

A nervy start from Aylesbury saw Ampthill on the front foot, with the forwards and backs combining well. A solid defensive effort saw the ball back in the hands of the home side, moving the ball well before the try scoring machine that is Lucy pounced over the line from the base of a ruck. Quickly finding the flow, the backs got play back into the Lionesses’ 22 letting the forwards do their thing and Charlotte coming away with the try. Making her senior rugby debut, Beth showed why she has been such a force in age grade rugby, carrying hard and crashing through the anyone in her way to score in what can only be described as a “silly salmon” dive for the line after a brilliant scramble tackle from the defence. Bex now had her eye in from the tee, adding the extras. An Ampthill penalty kept the score board ticking until Amy found another gear, showing a clean pair of heels from what felt an end to end run to go in under the posts for Bex to add the extras.

The second half showed no signs of easing up with Ampthill working the ball well and scoring a great try in the corner. The response from the home team was swift with punishing carries from the forwards and cutting lines from the backs, the As attack was back in the 22 where the forwards really went to work with Hannah scoring with the pick and go to a huge cheer on her return from a long injury and Bex adding the extras. Another senior debut and try combo followed from Eve, who had carried hard all game, finding a gap and going all the way to the line leaving Bex the simple job in front of the posts to add the extras. Ampthill were by no means finished and played their way up into the Aylesbury 22 where the defenders had to work hard to keep them out. The women in Magenta and Black have worked hard on their discipline and fitness and reaped the rewards for their efforts with trys from Johanna, Lowenna and Lucy (who else) closing out the game with Bex adding the final score from the tee.

Another great fixture between our Clubs, putting on a showcase of Women’s Rugby for the crowd. We always look forward to welcoming to Aylesbury and they never disappoint with the way they play hard to the final whistle

Yesterday we had the pleasure of training with 👑 she spent some time with our backs, then joined us in playing touch and practicing everything we’d learnt in the session. She even wore a crown with us at the end! 👸🏼

Thanks for getting involved!
