We can also be reached on our nutrition helpline by calling 01622 718487 or by messaging our social media channels to receive a bespoke ration plan or product information. Quality & Integrity

Saracen Horse Feeds' nutritional integrity is reflected by the quality of the range, which has been designed and developed with the highest-grade ingredients in order to meet the nutritional needs of all horses and ponies. Our open declaration policy means that every ingredient that is used is declared on the feed label, and the fixed formulation protects the consistency and superiority of our range. Science & Innovation

Saracen Horse Feeds relies upon clinically proven research to deliver science-based nutrition, created and delivered with innovation and expertise. Saracen is the exclusive UK partner of Kentucky Equine Research, who are an independent equine research centre based in the United States of America. The 20-year relationship has given Saracen the opportunity to consistently provide nutritional solutions with unique, progressive feeds that can make a real difference. Applying this wealth of knowledge and understanding of equine nutrition and physiology whilst combining it with modern day technology allows us to offer unique services to track the development of youngstock via Gro-Trac, the fitness of performance horses via ClockIt Sport and provide fully balanced rations using MicroSteed. Striving for success across all levels of customer care, formulation, and nutritional understanding in order to meet the needs of all of our customers and their horse’s individual requirements. With results that speak for themselves, Saracen Horse Feeds are proud to support performance at all levels with many long-term relationships forged with high profile riders including Carl Hester, Charlotte Dujardin, Sam Griffiths, Francis Whittington, Izzy Taylor and Richard Howley, whilst also feeding Mount St John, the renowned breeders of the next generation of dressage medal winners. In addition, we are equally proud to support horse owners who enjoy a wide variety of leisure activities. Our markers of success aren’t always in podium positions, but we are also regularly called upon by equine veterinarians to support nutritional recovery and rehabilitation while horses are convalescing or post-operative, and to manage Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome, Laminitis, and muscle myopathies.

As we head into autumn, it’s a good time to review your donkey’s diet.
While forage should form the foundation of their diet, it’s important to make sure your donkey is receiving the vitamins and minerals they need to support their overall health and wellbeing.
Saracen Donkey Diet provides complete, balanced nutrition, with fibre sources and added yeast to support hindgut health, alongside a low-starch formulation.

What did your horse get up to in their golden era or perhaps their golden era is still going strong?

Every veteran has a story, and we’d love to hear it.

Pictured is Alfie when he used to enjoy hound exercise and now he is 25 years old and is enjoying semi-retired life.

Opening a new batch of hay? Don’t forget to make the change gradually.
We often think about introducing a new feed slowly, but the same applies when moving onto a new batch of hay or haylage.
The nutritional value of forage can vary from one batch to the next, and a sudden change can upset the balance of bacteria in your horse’s hindgut.
Recent forage analysis suggests that first-cut hay from the 2026 harvest is more digestible, and therefore higher in energy, than hay from 2025. So, even if your horse is still eating “hay”, what they’re getting from it may have changed.
Where possible, keep enough of your old forage to mix with the new batch and make the change gradually over at least 7 days.
You can also support your horse’s hindgut during periods of dietary change. Pro-Yeast helps support the environment in the hindgut, encouraging the beneficial fibre-digesting bacteria that help your horse get the most from their forage.

Forage is a major source of calories and fibre, so anything that reduces how much an older horse can eat may contribute to weight loss and a loss of condition.
Dental changes are a common consideration. Horses with worn, loose or missing teeth can find it increasingly difficult to chew long-stem forage effectively, meaning they may no longer be able to consume enough to meet their daily requirements.
For these horses, forage replacers can be used to help maintain an adequate fibre intake, while providing a form that is easier to chew and manage.
As a guide, horses should receive no less than 1.5% of their bodyweight per day as dry matter.

Take a look at our example forage replacement ration.

Remember: Introduce forage replacers gradually and consider the calorie content of the fibre source when choosing the most appropriate option for your horse.
