Laura is undertaking an epic journey cycling down South America. She’s currently in the Equadorian Andes after travelling through Columbia, and will soon be crossing into Peru.

She sent a message to say she’s having some issues with her bike and could I help diagnose the problem. Of course! After a few messages she can now hopefully get the issue sorted using her knowledge and a local bike shop.

One of this weeks jobs was to fit a Duo brake to a customers bike. They need all controls on the right hand side so the Duo lever was the perfect answer. As per usual from Hope the quality of the kit is superb. The longer lever operates the rear brake and the shorter lever operates the front. Both levers can be used independently. Really impressed with the set up 👌🏻

It was rather chilly when I arrived this morning with ice on the inside of the shop windows 🥶🥶. It is rather pretty though ❄️

Kevin popped in to say hello earlier in the week. He also says don’t forget that you can get your bike security marked for free by Derbyshire Police at the shop tomorrow morning (Saturday 9th Nov) between 10 and 11am.

On Saturday 9th November, Derbyshire Police are holding a free bike security marking event at the shop. The event will run from 10:00 to 11:00 so pop along 😎

I had a beautiful gold Pinarello from 1982 in for a fettle this week. It’s now off to the motherland to ride the route of the Strada Bianche next week 😎 🇮🇹

It does remind me a little of C-3PO, in the nicest possible way

I’ll give a 10/10 ⭐️⭐️ for effort in getting the chain stuck in the cassette 🙈. That took a bit of furtling and words of encouragement (ahem 😅) to get out. New derailleur hanger plus new rear derailleur required. Amazingly the chain and cassette seem ok.

This little device has just saved me from tearing my hair out in frustration! Whilst I’m not normally a fan of using devices to make incompatible components work together, I didn’t have any choice on this occasion.

The bike is used on a Wahoo Kick’r Core. It was skipping really badly. The long and short of it is that it had Campagnolo 9 speed shifters and chain being used with a Shimano (Miche) 10 speed cassette - it was destined never to work!

Frustratingly the Campagnolo 9 speed cassette doesn’t fit on the Campag Wahoo freehub… cheers Wahoo for only permitting people to use top end Campag cassettes 👍

The only solution was a Shimano 9 speed cassette plus a “standard” 9 speed chain and this little device, the Jtek Shiftmate version 1. It now works like a dream 😎😮‍💨
