𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - 𝟑𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫

Highlights from last Saturday's win over New Santos.

Both teams had plenty of chances, but two well placed headers from Paul and Darren, a lovely chip for Paul's second and a penalty save from Tyler was the difference.

New Santos 2 - 3 Grange Rangers

A superb team win today as we travelled to Belfast to face New Santos who had a 100% record so far this season.

For a 4th game in a row we scored inside 2 mins. Good play down the right wing with Craig playing in Ethan on the overlap and his cross was guided home by Paul.

After that it was a very even, back and forth first half with both teams creating chances. We found our backs to the wall at the end of the half with a series of long throws causing problems, one leading to a penalty. Thankfully Tyler continued his great record making his third penalty save of the season.

We came out on top in the second half. Another cross from Ethan, another well placed header this time from Darren for 2-0. Paul then found himself with some time just outside the box and produced a lovely chip for 3-0.

We’ve been 3-0 up before this season and seen it slip so knew it wasn’t over. And with 15 mins to go New Santos got another penalty, this time converted, and the comeback was started. A tidy finish from the opponents striker made it 3-2 with 10 mins to go.

But the rest of the game was well managed and we saw the game out for an important win. Next week we are on the road again against Rock Athletic hoping to make it 3 in a row!

𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - 𝟏𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫

The highlights from last Saturday where we had another one sided home win.

The pick of the goals coming in the first half with some good finishes and well worked team goals.

It was more of the same in the second half with Tyler also saving a penalty to keep his clean sheet.

The goals kept flowing as we dominated from start to finish at Foundry today and our front 4 doing the majority of the damage.

Much improved football on a sunny day in Ballyclare as we moved the ball well in the first half, creating a steady flow of chances and great finishing from Jordan, Darren, Craig and Paul saw us score 8 first half goals including a hat-trick for Jordan.

The second half was similar, adding 4 more goals including a hat-trick for Darren, finally in his natural position, but we did need Tyler to be switched on making a string of saves including a penalty to keep his clean sheet.

Credit to Newtown Forest who fought to the end and good luck to them for the season.

We have a week off next Saturday before returning to action on Halloween and looking to put together a run of wins.

This one might be a bit of a lie as Nathan first played for Grange and Grange Seconds in the 2015/16 season and probably reached this landmark a long time ago, but in the time we have been tracking he has now surpassed the 100 appearance mark!

Playing mainly as a winger who defends, Nathan's versatility has seen him play in every position throughout his time here. He even has a clean sheet to his name in one of his many appearances between the sticks when needed.

He's also one of the strangest players when it comes to discipline, barely ever getting a yellow card but he's always reliable for a stupid red card each season.

Nathan has a few awards to his name, winning Clubman and Players Player in 19/20 and he was also a part of our squad that won the BPFL Junior Div 3 in 21/22.

Congrats Nathan!

𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫

The goals from a chaotic Saturday.

From starting well and racing into a three goal lead, to throwing it away to be 2 goals down and yet somehow scoring the last two goals with 9 men.

None of it made sense but we'll take a point.

Willowfield Parish 10th OB 5 - 5 Grange Rangers

⚽️ Craig Boston
⚽️ OG

Just a chaotic afternoon in South Belfast as we went from a 3 goal lead to being 2 goals down and down to 9 men before somehow staging a lake comeback.

We picked up where we left off last week cruising into a 3 goal lead. Jack got us started, winning the ball high up the pitch and finishing calmly. Then TJ’s cross was turned in by a defender before Craig found the bottom corner for the third.

After that we found small mistakes creeping into our game, allowing the momentum to completely swing and out of nowhere we were going into halftime at 3-3.

The second half was just as chaotic as we had two players sent off for dissent in bizarre circumstances and we conceded goals from a penalty and long throw to find ourselves 5-3 down and a bit shellshocked.

Somehow, with 9 men and it all to do, we were the team on top playing a unique 3-3-2 formation.

Paul hit the bar twice and we thought that was our chances gone. But then Darren’s free kick found its way past everyone, making it 5-4. And Darren again was in the box from Paul’s cross to head home for 5-5 in injury time.

We had hopes of going all the way for a winner but it wasn’t to be and nobody was happy with a point at the end.

Good luck to Willowfield for the rest of the season, next Saturday we return to Foundry Lane.
