One step closer!!

𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞

We are delighted to confirm that planning permission has now been granted for The Cloughan Project – a major milestone in the journey to deliver a new £3.5m multi-sport hub for Ballyclare.

The project will include a new floodlit multi-sport 3G pitch, a new floodlit 2G hockey pitch, an upgraded covered cricket training area, and significant improvements to the overall site.

This marks the culmination of several years of sustained work by our volunteer committee, whose commitment and persistence have driven this project forward to this point. Their efforts, alongside the continued support and engagement of Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council and Sport NI, have been instrumental in reaching this stage.

From its inception, this project has received unanimous cross-party political and community support. We are grateful to have the backing of our elected representatives as we work to deliver something truly special for the people of Ballyclare.

The need for enhanced sports facilities in Ballyclare and the surrounding areas has never been greater. This development will not only support the continued growth of Ballyclare RFC, but will also provide high-quality facilities for local schools, other sports clubs, and the wider community – creating opportunities for participation, health, and social connection across all age groups.

With planning approval now secured, we believe there is a clear opportunity to progress to the next stage and deliver a facility that reflects both the scale of demand and the ambition for sport and community provision in this area.

We look forward to continuing to work closely with all stakeholders to bring this project forward, and we hope to be in a position to share a further update in due course.

John Coyle will serve as the President of Ballyclare Rugby Club for the upcoming season.

John has been a Member for nearly 40 years and his dedication to the club is second to none.

A true club man, John has played across many teams, with a standout moment being his captaincy of the 5th XV to the McCambley Cup Final in 1997 as well as being part of the ‘Racing Club de Clare’ team.

Off the pitch, John has been a volunteer for over 20 years, contributing on the General Committee, as House Convenor, and as a devoted mini rugby coach.

Tickets for this fund raising event are £25 each and include
● all you can eat buffet style cooked breakfast

● unlimited tea and coffee/ orangeJuice

● free bottle of beer or glass of prosecco and entry into a guess the score comp included.

Places are available until either the date is sold out or cut off for numbers will be the Wednesday before each test.

Banish the post Lions Blues with our Chairman Bob Beckwith who is arranging an informal fundraiser for The Rawthey Project at the Club on Friday 15th August. 1900 for 1930 hrs.

The event will comprise of a 2-course meal priced at £20 per head. The cost includes a small donation to the Project.

The Rawthey Project helps veterans, in service personnel from any service, and also blue light services. It is entirely staffed by volunteers, with the ethos of peer support.

Funds raised will be put towards a residential recovery course held in Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales. More information of the course can be found here:
