What conversation are you having with yourself tonight?

The kids are heading back to school, and for plenty of adults that means heading back to the gym. So let me tell you about a gym moment that absolutely scarred me when I was at school.

I’ve been there, I know how it feels.

Breakfast isn’t my first meal!

I know a number of people are already in their heads telling me, “John, I hate eating breakfast.” 🤮

I completely get it; you hear people constantly telling you how important it is, etc., but would it seem strange if I told you I actually don’t eat it?

I know if you skip breakfast, you are more likely to snack and overeat in certain meals, but if you flip it, you could have extra calories for the meals and snacks you actually enjoy rather than forcing porridge down your throat. 👍

So here’s the plan: If you don’t really want to eat breakfast, then let’s listen to our body. I want you to keep dairy today, but let’s keep it very simple. I want you to track when you get hungry and also when you are eating any meals.

Why?

Nutritional timing could help you with your goals. If you skip breakfast and find you start to get hungry around 11 am rather than 1pm you could bring your lunch forward or have a snack. Creating a full day of eating that serves you rather than trying to fit in with everyone else.

Let me know how you get on with this, as I know this has actually been a game changer for so many of my clients.

Action step:

Write down when you feel hungry and when you are eating your meals throughout the day.

Earlier on my stories, I was talking about this.

The thought is usually worse than the action.

How many times have you spent all day thinking about going to the gym?

😩 “I can’t be bothered.”
😴 “I’m too tired.”
🗓️ “I’ll just go tomorrow.”

Then you actually go… and an hour later, you’re walking out feeling 10 times better than when you walked in. 💪

I’ve told a number of clients this in the past. ⬇️⬇️

“Just go. Do the warm-up. Then do your first set. If you still don’t want to train after that, then just go home.”

And do you know something?

I’ve never had anyone leave early.

Because most of the battle isn’t the workout.

It’s getting through the conversation you’re having with yourself before you even leave the house. 🧠

Don’t let the thought of training stop you from doing something you’ll probably be glad you did.

Sometimes the hardest part is simply walking through the door.

Save this for the next time your brain tries to convince you not to go. 💪

You want all the results and benefits that come with training… but you just hate training.

That’s okay. 👍

I’ve worked with plenty of people over the years who have achieved amazing results but have never really enjoyed going to the gym.

They don’t love lifting weights. They don’t wake up buzzing for a workout. And they probably never will.

But they do love:

✅ Seeing their clothes fit better
✅ Feeling fitter and stronger
✅ Having more energy
✅ Watching their progress build
✅ Getting the results they came for

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make when they don’t enjoy training is spending far longer in the gym than they need to.

They walk in without a plan. They jump between different exercises. They spend ages wondering what to do next. Then a workout that could have taken 30 minutes ends up taking over an hour. 🤯

And when you already don’t enjoy training, that makes it even harder to stay consistent.

I make sure they have a clear plan.

They know exactly what exercises they are doing in each session, everything is explained to them, no stone left unturned.

Get in.

Get the work done.

Get out.

Sometimes that’s only 30 minutes.

They might not always be buzzing to start the session, but they love the progress and, more importantly, the results that come from it.

You don’t have to love every part of the process. Sometimes you just need a plan that makes the process easier to stick to.

If you hate the gym but still want the results, drop me a message with the word PLAN. 🫡
