For years, strength training was everything.
Powerlifting was the only thing I did day in, day out, represented Ireland on European and World stages, and in 2015 I won Northern Ireland’s Best Overall Lifter.
I remember going to the event being into super hero’s seen the Thor trophy on display and he says “daddy you need to win that” and I did!! I’d no choice 😆
But eventually… I got bored.
Not because I stopped loving strength but because I realised there was more to training than just one discipline.
I used my strength background to push other events running, triathlons, CrossFit, Hyrox, long‑distance trail running, even ultra running training wasn’t just about how much weight you could lift anymore, I loved the variation and the new challenges.
Everyone needs variety in training to prevent boredom and to push the limits, it’s great being able to jump from strength events, fitness events and long endurance events without much prep!
