Steve Clark popped in for a quick chat, then I persuaded him to have a quick hour on the top pond.
He started off with a team of three buzzers, and picked up one, with another strong pull.
I suggested a change to a big sedge after Sandy Finnie’s success at the weekend with one.
Steve added another to his tally, then rose another.
Not bad for the short time he fished.
I was happy with the way the middle pond turned out, and managed to get most of the cuttings removed too.

Middle pond now cut and fishable from both banks.
There’ll be a lot of sticklebacks looking for cover now.
Water level has risen about 8 inches in the middle and only a little bit of the rock showing.
Top pond is at full capacity 😎

Youngster Callum Henderson pictured here bending into his first ever trout on the fly. He successfully netted it and it was a nice rainbow about 3lb. There’s also one of a nice fish being landed by Sandy Finnie on the top pond.
It was a tough day with the wind and sun combo, but some did manage to land fish.
Simon Varley and Rob Wishart both won fun day prizes, landing a couple in the testing conditions.
A big thank you to Colin and David Craik of Somer’s Fishing Tackle for coming out to demo some of their rods with the anglers.
Weather looking good for mostly all morning tomorrow, with more welcomed rain coming in mid afternoon.

FUN DAY PROGRAMME FOR SATURDAY 26th
It’s a 9.30 start for the fly fishers taking part in the fun competition with the prizes for those catching immediately after the random whistles, and one for most fish - their entry fee is £25, including some lunch, teas and coffees.
It’s FREE for those coming along on Saturday just to get some tips and advice, which is especially useful for all the novices and beginners of bait or fly.
Teas and coffee will be available.
Representatives from Somer’s Fishing Tackle will be at the fishery from 10.00 - 14.00 to demonstrate various pieces of tackle. This is a great opportunity to ‘try before you buy’
There will also be two fun competitions involving accuracy with the bait rod, and accuracy with a fly rod that’s got a ‘mind of its own’ 🤔
Somer’s have kindly donated prizes for this.

There will also be our normal bait fishing and fly fishing permits for those just wishing to come out for a cast.

A nice quiet end to the day.
Steady number of anglers out today and nice to be able to point some newer anglers in the right direction.
The bait anglers were much more successful today, and mostly all caught fish.
The water is cooling down nicely.
Managed to get strimming and peg clearing done all round the bottom pond.

Not the best of weather yesterday but Norman Fletcher still managed to get 7 to the net using dries and buzzers.
Managed to get out with the boat on Thursday and cut a good area of the bottom pond, freeing up more pegs.
Hoping to get all bottom pond pegs completed on Tuesday, then on to the middle pond in time for our ‘fun day’, on Sat 26th Sept.
Anyone can come along for advice about bait and fly fishing, and try out rods and reels with Somer’s Fishing Tackle.
Those wishing to fish the fun comp need to forward names to the fishery by calling 01330 820092.
There will be decent prizes that can be won by all abilities.
Water level is still extremely low, but hopefully the rains will come eventually.

Not too bad today with Rob Wishart picking up 4 fish, three on dries and one on a cruncher.
Martin Davidson had 2 nice fish on dries, and was also smashed in the middle pond with a big rainbow.
It’s always nice when a fly angler tries the fishery for the first time, and finds success.
Will Mair came out today and managed 4 to the net, which was a great achievement on his first trip to Raemoir.
There was also success on bait for Naomi and her dad.
She’s pictured here with her two fish.
The water is cooling down nicely, with more fish coming on the feed again.

In the words of Jim Bowen, ‘let’s have a look at what you could have won’.
Here’s some pics of where my Scottish teammates have had the pleasure of fishing during their practise days.
It’s not all fun and games, as they’ll be working out techniques, sharing ideas, and sitting at night tying up ‘killers’ for when the competition starts on the 14th. The secret is not to burn yourself out.
Each of our five in the team will fish two different lakes, and three different river sections, alternating each day.
Team meetings at night will be crucial to tweak tactics and strategy for the next day.
As the competition gets to day 4 and 5, these venues will become increasingly difficult after top class fishers have already fished through them.
It looks like they’ve prepared well, and team spirit in the camp is ‘sky high’.
The beat draws in these competitions is often crucial, with some river sections producing lots of fish, whilst the one next to it could be sparse. There are also good and bad boat partners, and I’ve had both. A bad boat partner can really affect your fishing if it’s their choice of where to take the boat, and they take you to an area you know is non productive. A good boat partner will often work with you, so that you both are successful.
When you’re away abroad you sometimes feel isolated, and I always feel that I’m under pressure to produce for the team, and your country.
Unfortunately, most observers back home will just see the results, and don’t necessarily see the full picture. An angler can be extremely lucky with draws, an angler can lose a lot, or have a terrible boatman/boat partner.
One thing’s for sure, and knowing each one of our team, they’ll be putting in 110% to maximise their draws, good or bad.
Come on Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, and also the other 3 home nations that are their too👏

You never forget your first fish, and for Kyle Graham, it looks like he’s rather pleased with his first catch today.
Well done, I hope it’s the first of many.

Well done to young Zack Stockwell yesterday, managing 9 to the net.
I was told that the Ally McCoist did the damage again.
I’ve watched Zack fishing, and quite often he’ll look for fish with the Polaroid glasses on, then cast in front of them and retrieve it back quickly, triggering a follow or a take.
I was back on the Don yesterday on the ADAA stretch at Lower Parkhill. I fished the same areas on Thursday morning, catching a few but not big numbers. I predicted 10 to win the competition yesterday, based on the Thursday catch.
I was pleasantly wrong, ending up with 19 to the net.
The difference yesterday was that they were staying on a lot better, only losing around 4 in the four hours.
Here’s a couple, and you can really see the variations in markings of these fish.
I think that previous stockings of the river has changed the DNA of the trout population.
I’ve fished other rivers where there’s been no stocking, and quite often, every trout looks identical.
They very often vary with the colour of their surroundings too, blending in to hide from predators.
