Happy September, how are we here already! 🥹❤️

Some recent thoughts…

I think you’ve got to take things a little less seriously.

It might not work for everyone but it certainly works for me. I think it’s what allows me to do so much, I don’t overthink things, I just do them.

I want to enjoy all aspects of life and lately, training hasn’t been what it “should” have been. Old me probably wouldn’t have coped well with that. I’d have stressed about missing sessions, worried about losing fitness and tried to squeeze training into every spare minute.

But the new me has accepted that life is full on.
Or maybe… I’ve just finally realised I’m no longer running away from my problems by going for a run. 🤣

Either way, I’m learning to be okay with not always doing what I “should” be doing.

I’m a business owner, building my own business and I’m a mum to two beautiful children. And they will always come before any training goal.

Training is important to me but it’s also not everything.

So, a little reminder to anyone out there who feels like they’re not doing enough, missing sessions or not sticking perfectly to their plan…

Don’t panic.

Life is too short to spend it stressing about the things you didn’t get done.

Have fun. Enjoy your family. Go for the run if you fancy it, skip it if you don’t. Take the pressure off yourself.

You can always train tomorrow.

But you don’t get today back. ❤️

This month does however, see a 24-hour track race. I’m going into it with an open mind and doing it for the purest reason of all - because I absolutely love this sport! ❤️

Explorr Marathon — 42.5km of two of the same VERY hilly loops! ⛰️

A training run ahead of my 24-hour track race in a few weeks, so it was a great confidence boost to come away with the win! 🏆

Even more special to take the win at such an amazing local event, run by my cousin Scott. ❤️

Hills haven’t really been on the cards this training block, with my next race being on the track, so I wasn’t quite sure how this one would go. But I’m really pleased to see that my body still feels strong on the climbs.

Maybe I need to get back to the hills soon… 👀

Crossed the finish line and straight back into mum life - no rest for the wicked! 😂 But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Amazing event, explorr Festival I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to be back next year! 🫶

Two years ago, I stood on this start line for my first race back after having Lochie by C-section. The run Banchory race which is back again this year under a different name explorr Festival and looks fantastic! I can’t wait to take part in the marathon event this weekend.

Looking back at that version of me feels emotional. Not because I was the fastest, strongest or fittest I’ve ever been but because I was figuring out how to chase a goal while also learning how to be a mum all over again.
And I think that’s something we don’t talk about enough.

Being a parent and chasing goals is HARD.
Whether you’re training to race, trying to get stronger, building a career, starting a business or simply trying to find 30 minutes for yourself, it’s a completely different game when you have little people relying on you.

There are no perfect recovery days.
No guaranteed 8 hours sleep.
No switching off after a hard session.
No “I’ll just take it easy today.”

Because life still goes on.

There are school runs, sleepless nights, packed lunches, nursery drop-offs, tantrums, cuddles, work, responsibilities and a million things that don’t care whether your legs are sore or you’ve just run your hardest race.

So please - stop comparing your journey to someone who isn’t walking in your shoes.

You don’t have the same life.
You don’t have the same responsibilities.
You don’t have the same recovery.
And you don’t need to.

You can be ambitious AND be a parent.
You can chase huge goals AND sometimes have to slow down.
You can be an athlete AND have days where surviving the day is the achievement.

Progress doesn’t always look like a PB.

Sometimes progress is simply showing up.

And to every mum and dad out there trying to chase something for themselves while raising their little ones:

Keep going.
Give yourself grace.
Be proud of the small wins.
And remember, you are doing a bloody amazing job.

Your kids don’t need a perfect parent.

They need a parent who shows them that it’s okay to dream, to work hard, to fall down, to start again and to believe in yourself.

And maybe, one day, they’ll look back and realise just how incredible you were for doing it all. ❤️

Support.

Something I’d say I’m pretty good at and something I’m genuinely grateful to have around me.

There will always be a minority in life who won’t support you simply because it’s you. And honestly? That’s okay. Because they’re massively outweighed by the people who do.

The people who clap for you.
The people who share your wins.
The people who show up, encourage you, recommend you, celebrate you and genuinely want to see you do well.

I’ve always been a big believer in supporting other people - whether they’re in the same industry, doing similar work, have similar ideas or are chasing something completely different.

Because what do we actually gain from doing the opposite? Nothing.

Someone else succeeding doesn’t take away from your success. Someone else having a good idea doesn’t make yours any less valuable. And someone else building something amazing doesn’t mean there’s less room for you to build yours.

There is enough space for all of us.

So I’ll forever be the hype girl. The one cheering from the sidelines, shouting about other people’s wins, sharing their businesses, encouraging their ideas and building people up whenever I can.

Because I know how much it means when someone genuinely believes in you.

And if I can be that person for someone else, then I’ll always choose to be.

Support costs nothing but it can mean everything. 🧡
