Ages currently range from 16-70, but we have had members as young as 8. We have a wide range of abilities within the club, and no-one need feel intimidated.
Bangor Chess Club welcome players of all abilities from complete beginners to grandmasters for both social chess (playing for fun) and competitive chess (playing official rated matches and competitions). With juniors (under 16), we do require a parent or guardian, or other legally responsible adult, to attend meetings with their charge/s (you don't have to play too - one parent brings his laptop &

IMPORTANT - CHANGE OF DAY
We've not been able to get our usual room in the Management Centre regularly on Mondays so we have switched to Wednesdays. We're sorry for any inconvenience this causes and we hope it won't be for too long. But until you hear otherwise we're meeting on Wednesdays 7pm in the Management Centre.
IMPORTANT - Please note - there is no chess tonight.
We have switched to Wednesday for this week, normal venue at 7pm.
IMPORTANT - change of room for tonight
We've had a late change of room for tonight. We're in room D1-02 not D1-07. This is on the same corridor as our normal room so come in the same way, go up the stairs to the same floor as usual then turn left instead of right at the landing
Please note that there will be NO CHESS for the next 3 weeks as there is no one available to run the sessions.
The next session will be on Monday September 16th in our new room in the Management Centre not in G1. If you’re not sure how to find the Management Centre room then just ask.
Hope to see you all there.
Please note that this location is no longer correct for the summer months so don't turn up to Main Arts on Mondays. Existing members should have received an email with new venue details. Prospective messages please email [email protected] for details :)
Hi everyone,
After our Bank Holiday switch last week we are back to Mondays for chess. We'll be there tonight at the usual time of 7pm. We'll meet in our upstairs room as we have a match in G1. The match starts 7.15 so if you don't know where our upstairs room is, arrive before then and we'll show you.
Please note there will be NO CHESSTOMORROW (Monday May 6th) because the university building is closed for the bank holiday.
Instead this week we will meet on Wednesday at 7pm in our normal room. Please do not turn up on Monday!
Chess will be back as normal on Monday (January 22nd). Social chess will take place in OSCRB (the upstairs room) as there will be seven matches in G1. Those of you who come for social chess please be aware that there may be fewer different opponents than normal as a lot of club members are involved in the matches.
Matches will start at 7.15 so if you enter G1 after that please do so quietly. As always, everyone is welcome to observe the matches for any length of time.
Those who you are playing in the matches – matches are starting at 7.15 so please be there by 7.10 at the latest.
Hope to see you all there!
Important - there will be NO CHESS this coming Monday, January 15th, as the organisers are away. We will be back on Monday January 22nd.
Just a reminder that chess restarts tomorrow (January 8th). It'll be a quiet session as we have a match in G1 and our second room in unavailable for a couple of weeks as the university is using it for exams.
Hope to see you all soon! :)
The club will now break for the Christmas holidays – enthusiastic though we are we draw the line at meeting on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day!
Our first session back will be Monday January 8th – however this will be a quiet session as we have a match on in G1 and our upstairs room is not available till the 22nd as it’s being used for exams by the university.
We may not be able to have a session on the 15th as Peter and Catriona will both be in London for a family graduation. If anyone is willing to step in and bring the chess stuff and run the session in our absence, please let us know as soon as possible.
We will then be completely back to normal on January 22nd.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone! 😀
