MATCH REPORT – Bangor FC Ladies 3-1 Greenisland Women
Northern Ireland Women's Football Association Championship – Wednesday, 29th July
Goalscorers: Olivia Marshall 23', 58', Leah Robinson 59'; Lucy Redmond 53'

Bangor FC Ladies extended their unbeaten run in the NIWFA Championship to seven matches with a 3-1 victory over Greenisland Women on Wednesday night.

The Seasiders accounted for the east Antrim side in the MFC Super Cup nine days earlier, sealing a 4-0 win at Clandeboye Park on that occasion, and they repeated the feat in the league at the same venue to make it a third consecutive victory across all competitions.

Olivia Marshall struck either side of half-time, while Leah Robinson also contributed her first goal of the season to secure the three points, with Lucy Redmond having drawn Greenisland level early in the second period.

In a meeting of second and third place in the NIWFA Championship, the victory represents a major gain for Rory Hamill’s side, who have tightened their grip on second position with five league matches still to play.

The manager made a couple of alterations from the Seasiders’ 2-0 defeat of Craigavon City Ladies on Friday night – Marshall’s early brace sealing the deal there – which included a first start for 16-year-old Hannah Hewitt.

The Bangor native entered the fray along with Olivia Canavan, with Robinson and Robyn McFadden dropping to the bench having started the successful encounter in Lurgan.

The Yellows set their stall early on and led after just 23 minutes when the in-form Marshall hit the net, giving Hamill’s charges a lead they retained until the interval.
But Greenisland responded just eight minutes after the restart. Redmond was lively during the cup duel a week and a bit earlier, and she showed clinical edge to convert and level the scores.

However, two goals inside a minute tipped the scales back in Bangor’s favour. Marshall firstly completed her brace on 58 minutes – her second in a row and fifth in the last three matches – before Robinson, previously a prolific striker who has excelled in a more defensive role this term, made it 3-1 less than 60 seconds later.

The Seasiders saw that advantage out until the end, with the result seeing them move up to 31 points and remain six points behind division pacesetters Sion Swifts.
