🌊 Drowning Prevention Week 🌊
With the warmer weather, more of us are spending time around water — whether that’s the pool, the beach, or a local river.
It’s something most of us don’t think twice about… but it’s a good moment to check in with ourselves and each other.
Because drowning isn’t always obvious — and the little things we do can make a big difference.
So this week is just about being a bit more aware:
💧 Keeping an eye on the people we’re with
đź’§ Sticking somewhere we feel comfortable
đź’§ Taking a bit of extra care around open water
💧 Making sure we know what to do if something doesn’t feel right
No big changes — just small reminders that help keep everyone safe.
đź’™ So we can all enjoy the water and feel confident doing it.

🚍 Better Transport Week at Teesdale Leisure Centre
Today, we welcomed a member of Durham County Council’s Integrated Passenger Transport, Neighbourhoods and Environment team as part of Better Transport Week supporting the Campaign for Better Transport.
Fiona, visited the centre this afternoon to share information about local bus services and the support available to help people travel more easily and sustainably.
It was a great opportunity for customers to:
âś… Learn more about local bus routes and options
âś… Ask questions about public transport
âś… Discover support available in the area
Thank you to Fiona for visiting and to everyone who took the time to come along and find out more.

Drowning Prevention Week is here.
This week, we’ll be sharing water safety messages across our swimming lessons and here on Facebook, helping children and families think about how to stay safe in and around water.
We’ll also have water safety activity booklets available to pick up from Reception for younger children.
Or, if they fancy getting creative, they can take part in our Water Safety Poster Competition too.
Small conversations can make a big difference — and water safety is something every child should know.

Some days, showing up is the whole thing.
Not smashing a workout.
Not swimming further than last time.
Not doing everything perfectly.
Just getting there.
Getting changed.
Starting.
Doing what you can.
Leaving feeling a little better than when you came in.
That counts more than people give it credit for.
Not every visit has to be a big one.
Sometimes just keeping the habit alive is enough.
