Despite the lack of rain and the incredibly low water in the river it’s been a spectacular start to the season. With trout caught locally up 5lbs and 2lb fish are not unusual. Good to hear people using the tactics Olly Shepherd demonstrated at the open evering, with the streamer being particularly effective in the low water conditions.

The weather’s looking lovely for tomorrow’s open evening with Olly Shepherd. Starting at 5.30pm in the pool below the old mill at the bottom of the Demesnes in Barnard Castle. It’s free to come along and everyone is welcome, you don’t need to be a member of BCAC to attend.
Hope to see you there.

We’re pleased to let you know we have managed to secure some new water for this season. Lartington Estate has very kindly allowed the club to fish the Towler Hill Beat which extends our upstream boundaries considerably. Please note the fishing on this beat is fly only with single barbless hooks is catch release for trout and salmon.

It’s still very early in the season but there’s a few fish being caught, dry dropper and streamers seem to be the way to go at the moment.
