It’s a tricky situation, but the rules are clear. If your ball isn’t found, or identified as yours, within three-minutes, it’s classed as lost, even if another player has accidentally played it. That means you must return to the tee and continue under stroke and distance.🏌️

The other player doesn’t escape either. Playing the wrong ball means a two-stroke penalty, and that shot doesn’t count. If they can’t find their own ball in time, they’ll also need to head back to the tee, continuing play with 5 shots…ouch. 😬

Golf can be full of unusual moments like this, but knowing the rules helps you stay calm, make the right call and keep your round moving.

We’ve all found ourselves in an awkward lie at some point: tucked behind a tree, feet in the wrong place and wondering what on earth the rules allow. 🌳

So, if the only way you can make your shot is by leaning on a tree for support, is that allowed?

In most cases, yes. You’re not allowed to accept physical assistance from another person to help you make a stroke, and you can’t use equipment to support yourself in that way. But leaning against something natural, such as a sturdy tree, is generally fine. ⛳

As always, if you’re unsure, play it safe and check the rules before you take your shot.
