𝗗𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲

We are delighted to share that we recently agreed a long-term lease at Darton Longfields, where we have proudly delivered community junior football for over 20 years.

This is a significant milestone for the Club and the community. It enables us to invest over £300,000 into improving the site; creating safer, more accessible, and higher-quality facilities for children, young people, and families to enjoy sport and physical activity.

As part of this development, we have begun installing fencing around the main playing surfaces and new facilities. We understand that this has raised some queries locally, particularly regarding access across the land via the informal route from the motorway bridge in Darton.

The fencing is an essential part of the development to:

1) Protect the significant investment
2) Reduce the risk of vandalism and damage
3) Ensure the safety of users, especially children
4) Support our responsibilities for site management and public liability

While the route used by local residents for walking and access to the footbridge and surrounding green space is not officially designated, we do understand its value to the community. We want to reassure residents that we are committed to working positively with the community, and therefore as part of our development works, we will:

1) Create a new informal path through the land, at the club’s expense, running directly adjacent the fence line
2) Ensure this path connects the existing woodland route to the footbridge across the river and wider public green space

Our aim is to balance the need to protect and sustain our community sports facility with preserving local access and enjoyment of the wider area.

This project is not a commercial development. It is being delivered by volunteers and supporters of a community club, for the benefit of the community—particularly young people who rely on safe, local spaces to play sport and stay active.

We’ll embark on the journey from Barnsley Town Hall to Woolley Cricket Club on Saturday 13th June with plenty of refreshment stops a long the way.

Today our U15 girls played their final game of the season on our first team pitch at Colliery Road - and in doing so, made history as the first ever female team to grace the surface.

A huge milestone for the club and a proud moment for everyone involved.

Long may it continue as they progress on their footballing journey and push towards becoming North Gawber’s first ever women’s team.

The coaches couldn’t be prouder of the effort, commitment, and development shown by every single player this season. The future is bright 💫

What a showing from our U10 Girls Claret squad away at Killamarsh last weekend! Despite the treacherous conditions, the team dug deep, showed incredible determination, and put in a performance to be proud of. Both teams were evenly matched, but our girls rose to the challenge with teamwork, spirit, and brilliant football throughout!

🏅The entire squad shared the player of the match award — everyone played their part in an outstanding performance!

Sorry for the lack of updates recently… but after a frustrating weekend of no football last week, we surprisingly got both games on today and brought 6 points back to Barnsley in a couple of high scoring games.
