3 things you’ll get from Ashtanga yoga...

🧠 A calmer, clearer mind
Switch off from the outside world while you’re moving with the breath and holding strong postures.

💪🏼 Strength and mobility
This practice uses your own body weight to build functional strength, while safely increasing your range of motion.

🧘🏼‍♀️ A sense of discipline and commitment
You practice the exact same sequence of poses in the same order every single session. This can also help you build up to more challenging postures.

If you’re curious about Ashtanga, take this as your sign to try it! Join Adrianna every Saturday morning at 09:15.☀️

If you think yoga is just about touching your toes, have a swipe through 👉🏼

Asana (postures) is such a small part of our yoga practice. In yogic philosophy, Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga describes Yamas (personal practices that relate to our interactions with others and to the outer world) and Niyamas (personal practices that relate to our inner world) as the first two steps to Samadhi (the state of ecstasy)✨

If you set boundaries and say no without explaining yourself, you’re practising Satya - truthfulness.

If you’re patient with yourself and rest without feeling guilty, you’re practising Ahimsa - non violence.

If you start over again after quitting, that’s Tapas - steady effort.

You might step onto your mat to gain flexibility, but you’ll leave with so much more...🧘🏼‍♀️

✨ MEET THE TEAM ✨

Meet Adriana, yoga teacher & administrator.

Adriana came to Mind, Body & Spirit back in 2012 as a student. She completed her BWY Foundation with Michelle, going on to completing her level 3 certificate in teaching in 2016, and that’s where she found her love of teaching.🧘🏻‍♀️

Although she loves all her classes and students, teaching Ashtanga holds a special place in her heart.

When she’s not teaching, Adriana loves a National Trust outting and spending Friday’s with her husband for their weekly date day.

Adriana’s favourite quote is ‘SA TA NA MA’, as it keeps her calm and relaxed. If you repeat it whilst pressing your thumb to different fingers with each syllable, it is said to boost memory retention.

Did you know... Adriana has a crazy cat called Gemma who will eat anything that is not nailed down as she was a former stray. She has to share all her meals with Gemma as she will try anything!

You can join Adriana in the studio every Monday and Saturday morning!🌞

Mudra Monday 🤌🏽

NEW MINI SERIES... each month, we’ll be sharing some of Michelle’s favourite mudras, what they do and how you can use them.

If you’ve ever been to one of Michelle’s classes, you’ll know how much she loves a mudra!

This month we’re focusing on Hindu Gods.👉🏼

⚖️Vishnu mudra⚖️
Bring the index finger and middle finger towards the palm of the hand. Extending the thumb, ring finger and little finger on each hand.
Great to practice if you’re seeking protection, patience, knowledge, or prosperity.

⚔️Shiva mudra⚔️
Place your left palm facing up near your navel, and rest a loose right fist with your thumb pointing straight up onto that left palm.
You might call on Shiva as a source of inspiration as you try to achieve a goal or when experiencing difficulty in life.

🪐Brahma Mudra🪐
Tuck each thumb into the palm at the base of your little finger. Make fists with both your hands. Press the knuckles of both hands together and rest your hands against your lower belly near your navel, with palms facing upward. Brahma is a great source of mental focus, and concentration.

🐘Ganesha Mudra🐘
Place your right palm up, left palm down and hook your fingers together. You would call upon Ganesha for protection and removal of any obstacles that may come your way.

🐵Hanuman Mudra🐵
Bring your right hand up to shoulder height, with your palm facing away from you. Place your left hand, palm down on your left knee. In times of doubt and great difficulties, you would call upon Hanuman for physical strength, perseverance, and devotion.
