This week the (In Memory of Pat Elvidge 1st Xi) travelled to Normanton MIB knowing that a win would see us crowned champions.
Stand in skipper Dale Woolsey (Infinity Funerals) lost the toss and we were put out to field.
After a challenging start openers HP Keegan (In memory of Pat Elvidge) and Ricky Crompton (ICECO & Storelogs) struck in back to back overs with a wicket a piece to swing the momentum in our favour at 30-2. Ricky would claim our 3rd shortly after before the hosts started to rebuild and swing the game their way as the 4th wicket partnership really rocked us back.
It would be a double bowling change that would blow the game right open as new bowlers Liam Rollin (Andy Rollin) and Ben Elmore (Available to sponsor) bowled fantastically, swinging the game back in our favour, as the pair took the remaining 7 wickets, as the hosts fell from 73-3, to 108 all out, magnificent from those 2!
The standouts with the ball were:
Liam Rollin 8.4 overs 4-10
Ben Elmore 9 overs 3-10
After a short rain delay we lost 4 overs meaning our revised target was 105 from 42 overs.
Dale and Martyn Crooks ( Minsthorpe Hotel The Nags + Dave & Di Crooks) led us out but it was a disaster start for us as Martyn fell early and pressure was on straight away.
The passage of play that followed was outstanding as Dale and Liam came together and dug in batting sensibly and running positively, as they surpassed a 50 partnership, most of the damage coming from Dales bat. Liam would eventually be dismissed but the damage you felt had already been done at 73-2, 32 to win.
HP in now to partner Dale as he would pass an exceptional 50 in the circumstances, the pair would drag Kirkby to within 15 of victory before Dales brilliant innings came to and end on 61. A little wobble crept in as one of the Normanton bowlers claimed a hat trick, to leave us 96-5.
But it would be HP and Dylan Moran (Available to sponsor) to see us home as a couple of quick boundaries from Dylan killed the hosts and we won by 5 wickets to overtake Askern and move into 1st place at the final hurdle.
