🏏⚽ Busy Friday Night at South Kirkby! ⚽🏏

We've got a fantastic evening of junior sport lined up at South Kirkby Colliery Cricket Club , with both of our U9s teams in action!

🍰 Our very own superstar baker, Neve, will be selling some of her delicious homemade treats, while the tea room will also be serving chips and cheesy chips throughout the evening.

Our A S Insurance Services Ltd U9s Blues will be looking to continue their impressive season when they take on Ackworth Cricket Club. The previous meeting between the sides was a closely contested game played in great spirit, with our lads just edging the result. We're expecting another excellent contest tonight.

Meanwhile, our Yorkshire Elite Football Club - Charity Team U9s Whites put their unbeaten record on the line against our neighbours, Frickley Colliery Welfare Cricket Club . The reverse fixture ended in a strong victory for our team, and they'll be hoping to repeat that performance this evening.

Come down, support the youngsters, grab some food, and enjoy what promises to be a great night at the club.

See you all there! 💙🤍

On Saturday, the 3rd XI welcomed Frickley 3rd XI to the G.

For only the second time this season, captain Dom Bedford (Shaun Norman) won the toss and elected to field.

After a tight start, with chances agonisingly falling short, Frickley put on 14 for the first wicket before Kane Moran (RPM Massage Therapy & Scar Therapy) (1-23 off 10) got us on the board. Jud Fatkin (available to sponsor) (0-26 off 10) bowled tightly from the other end and deserved more reward for his efforts.

In a masterstroke from captain Dom, Jono Downing (Carol Buckley in memory of Mick Buckley) (2-29 off 6) swapped the gloves for the ball and struck immediately, taking two wickets in his first over. He removed the Frickley captain for 46 before dismissing the number four for a golden duck with the very next ball.

Tom Edwards (available to sponsor) (4-40 off 7) also bowled superbly. His figures don't fully reflect how well he bowled as he dismantled the Frickley tail while keeping the scoring under control.

Frickley finished on 154-7 from their 40 overs.

Opening the batting for Kirkby, Jud Fatkin (0 off 4) and Marty Farrar (Excel Training Ltd) (13 off 26) strode to the crease. Unfortunately, Jud was dismissed in the first over without scoring.

Ruben Crompton (available to sponsor) (16 off 73) came to the crease at number three and batted with great maturity, occupying the crease well. Marty was then dismissed, bringing Tom Edwards (0 off 6) to the wicket, who was unfortunately dismissed shortly after arriving. Jono Downing (0 off 1) came in at five and was dismissed first ball for another golden duck!

Dean Crompton (available to sponsor) (21 off 34) batted sensibly, finding the boundary regularly before being given out LBW despite appearing to have hit the ball. In a fantastic show of sportsmanship, the Frickley players recalled Dean to continue his innings.

Dean and Ruben then put together a useful partnership before Dean was again adjudged LBW, this time with no debate.

Captain Dom Bedford (19* off 50) joined Ruben at the crease, but the partnership was soon broken when Ruben was dismissed by what can only be described as a worm-burner after a determined 16 from 73 balls.

Ben Pickin (available to sponsor) (12 off 11) came in and looked positive, piercing the gaps three times before being stumped.

That left Kirkby at 70-6 and brought Jaxon Warren (Julie & Gav Sibson) (0 off 18) to the crease. He battled hard to ensure the visitors did not claim maximum points before eventually being dismissed after facing 18 deliveries.

Young Alfie Lockett (available to sponsor) (3* off 22) helped see out the innings alongside his captain as Kirkby finished on 96-8 from their 40 overs, picking up three valuable points that could prove vital towards the business end of the season.

🏏 Featherstone Town CC vs South Kirkby CC 🏏

A tough day at the office yesterday as we went down by 168 runs.

Featherstone posted 278-5 from their allotted overs, and despite our best efforts, we were unable to build any momentum in the chase, eventually being bowled out for 110.

There were still some positives to take from the game:

👏 Kyle Wood (available to sponsor) claimed 3 wickets and put in a strong performance in the field.

👏 Steve Secker (Cyril Secker) led the resistance with an outstanding unbeaten 52*.

We take the points, regroup, and go again next week. 💪🏏

This week, the 1st XI (in memory of Pat Elvidge) hosted Hemsworth, looking to make it nine unbeaten in the league.

Skipper Nick Crooks (Minsthorpe Hotel The Nags + Di & Dave Crooks) won the toss and elected to bowl.

It would be an unusual innings, as Hemsworth looked to frustrate our bowlers early on. Tight bowling from HP Keegan (in memory of Pat Elvidge), Liam Rollin (Andy Rollin), and Ricky Crompton (ICECO and StoreLogs) kept Hemsworth at bay despite the lack of early wickets.

In the end, an acceleration never really came from the visitors as they batted out their 46 overs, finishing on 141-8 — a total we were confident of chasing.

The stand-out performers with the ball were:

HP Keegan: 14 overs, 4-42
Nick Ashton (Sign Design): 5 overs, 2-19

Special mentions must also go to Ricky and Liam, who were always on top of the opposition.

Now to the chase, and it would turn out to be the Dale Woolsey (Infinity Funerals) show.

He set the tone brilliantly, putting us right on top from ball one and never allowing any of the Hemsworth bowlers to settle.

He was well supported by opening partner Nick and Liam Rollin throughout the innings, but it was Dale's superb 86 that ultimately took the game away from the visitors and secured a comfortable eight-wicket victory inside 26 overs.

The stand-out with the bat was undoubtedly Dale, who finished on 86* (91), with Dylan Moran (available to sponsor) helping see us over the line, finishing on 15* (23).

Another another convincing win for the 1st XI, we remain unbeaten in the league. Next week, we travel to high-flying Calder Grove, looking to make it 10 in a row.
