South Kirkby CC 3rd XI Secure Thrilling One-Wicket Victory
South Kirkby CC 3rd XI produced a brilliant finish to beat Ferrybridge Power Station CC 2nd XI by just one wicket.
Ferrybridge batted first and posted 128 all out from 36.5 overs. A Snowden top-scored with an excellent 73 from 70 balls, while South Kirkby’s bowlers kept chipping away throughout the innings. O Bowery (AH Vehicle Logistics LTD) and T Edwards (Available to sponsor) both taking 3 each while K Moran (RPM Massage Therapy), J Fatkin (Available to sponsor) and R crompton (Available to sponsor) all chipped in
Chasing 129 for victory, South Kirkby made a steady start. M Farrar (Excel Training Ltd) led the way with a valuable 27, while D Bedford (S Norman) added 23 and N Brough (Available to sponsor) contributed 21. With wickets falling regularly, the game went right down to the wire.
T Edwards’ unbeaten 15 and K Moran’s unbeaten 4 saw South Kirkby over the line, reaching 132 for 9 from 37 overs to secure a dramatic one-wicket victory.

The 2nd Xi were hoping to build on from there last few matches against top sides as they lost the toss and was put into bat with the captain putting consistent Joe Ledbetter (Available to sponsor) and took a chance on Jonathon Downing (Carol Buckley in memory of Mick Buckley) who took it with both Hands.

Joe fell cheaply and an unusual low score of 7 with south Kirkby 19-1. This meant captain Elliott Secker (The Cleaning Academy) had to come in to build an innings. They did this comfortably in quick succession and dominated putting on a score of 116 with a 97 partnership as Jono fell on 47 with Elliott going soon after getting his 50 with a 6 and departed on 54 a proper captains performance making it 127-3 building a proper platform for both Browsters to capitalise on which they took with both hands with Olly Browster (In Memory Of Steve Wray) getting out on 33 and Matty Browster (AH vehicle Prep & Storage LTD) getting 43 not out and with a quick cameo off Rob Copes (Minsthorpe Hotel The Nags & Family Copes) who got 9 South Kirkby found themselves in a promising position of 225 to defend.

After the innings break Kirkby struck early with a blinder from Elliott catching a one handed dive from mid off which surprised everyone and meant their opener Singh left wounded with Whitley 4-1 in the first 2 overs from Nick Ashtons (Sign Design) bowling. Whitley tried going big early and their captain having a controversial decision go against Kirkby we let them back in the game however good bowling from Matty browster, Jono downing, Nick Ashton and Dave hill (Available to sponsor) and a last 2 over 2 wicket spell from Joe Fairhurst (11 St Johns, Whitby) Kirkby soon had the win in there sights as Whitley fell short on 193/8.

This week, the (In Memory of Pat Elvidge) 1st Xi hosted Old Sharlston as we lost the toss and were put out to field.
After last weeks success Ricky Crompton (ICECO & Storelogs) & Liam Rollin (Andy Rollin) would open the bowling and after a steady start from the visitors, Ricky would strike twice in 3 balls to leave us on top early at 26-2. HP Keegan (In memory Of Pat Elvidge) would replace Liam and get in on the act straight away, taking 2 wickets of his own to leave the away side 4 down. The pair would really run through the Sharlston batting lineup. Ricky's exceptional 14 over spell would come to an end before shortly after the innings would be all wrapped up, Martyn Crooks (Minsthorpe Hotel The Nags + Dave & Di crooks) would claim the final scalp, Sharlston finishing 91 all out.

Now time to chase and opening pair Dale Woolsey (Infinity Funerals) and Nick Crooks (Minsthorpe Hotel The Nags + Dave & Di Crooks) got us off to a fast start, scoring quickly and putting the opening bowlers under early pressure, all of a sudden the game would take a turn, as we fell from 40-0 to 67-5, still 25 runs short from victory This would bring Martyn and HP together, and the 2 steadied the ship, Martyn scoring the lions share of the runs, and the pair would see the game over the line as we finished 95-5 inside 18.4 overs.

🏏 South Kirkby CC 3rd XI vs Balby Recreation CC
A thrilling contest at The G saw Balby Recreation CC edge home by just 1 wicket.
South Kirkby were bowled out for 146 in 38.4 overs, with Adam Rowe (Available to sponsor) (41) and Simon Remmer (available to sponsor) (41) leading the scoring, while Dominic Bedford (S Norman) added 20.
In reply, Balby reached 148/9 in 35.2 overs. Ben Loversuch’s excellent 61 was the key innings, keeping Balby in the chase.
South Kirkby fought hard with the ball, with Dean Crompton (Available to sponsor) (3/38) and Jordan Fatkin (available to sponsor) (3/37) both taking three wickets.
A fantastic game of cricket that went right down to the wire, with Balby eventually securing the win with one wicket remaining.

Another massive shift from the lads yesterday against a very strong Rossington Main 1st XI outfit. We knew from the start it was going to be a tough afternoon, but everyone dug in, showed plenty of fight, and put in a performance we can genuinely take positives from.

Rossington finished on 213, but the big moment for us — and probably the moment of the whole game — was Jonathan Downing’s (Carol Buckley in memory of Mick Buckley) hat‑trick in the final over. Three perfect balls, three wickets, and a proper lift for the whole team. He’d bowled well all day, kept things tight, and then produced something special right at the end. It’s the sort of thing that gives everyone a boost going into the next few weeks.

Elliott Secker (The Cleaning Academy) backed it up with a cracking spell too. Four wickets, all important ones, and he kept their top order from getting away early on. He bowled with real control and made things happen when we needed it. The rest of the attack stuck at it as well — Hill (Available to sponsor), Wood (available to sponsor), and the lads all kept working hard even when Rossington tried to push on.

With the bat, Joe Leadbetter (available to sponsor) was outstanding again. Carried his bat for 69 off 100 balls*, held the whole innings together, and showed real maturity. He never panicked, picked his moments, and kept us in the game right the way through. Olly Browster (In memory of Steve Wray) played a proper knock too — 38 with six boundaries, giving us momentum in the middle overs and putting pressure back on their bowlers.

We also had good late contributions from Joe Fairhurst (11 St Johns, Whitby) and Jaiden Jones (The Cleaning Academy & Sugar blossom cupcakes), who both kept us pushing towards the total when things were getting tight. Jaiden’s little knock down the order might not look big on paper, but it was exactly what we needed at that stage — calm, sensible, and kept us ticking over.

We finished on 172/9. Yes, short of the target, but full of effort, commitment, and plenty of positives to take forward. The attitude was spot on. The energy in the field was good. The lads stuck together all the way through, and there were moments in that game where we really showed what we’re capable of.
