Redfearn's Blues hosted Sheffield United Junior Blades on a bright and breezy autumn morning at S71 2JS, eager to move on from last weeks disappointing lacklustre performance.
It was clear the boys were in a different frame of mind this morning, more focused and in the mood, they warmed up with intent and purpose and couldn't wait to get started.
The Blues lined up with Reed in goal, a defence of Singh and Gregory, Fraser and captain Hellewell on the wings, Forgione in the the centre of midfield and Briscoe the lone attacker. France, Hoyle, Cherry and Longley completing the match day squad.
Redfearn's set off quickly and were soon on top, winning the duals, 50/50 balls and playing with the intensity we've come to expect. Forgione was impressive in the middle, driving the team on and looking to create at every opportunity. It was young Fudge who created the opener, drifting forward past his markers before threading a perfect weighted pass through the defence for Briscoe to race clear and finish well past the advancing keeper.
The second goal was a carbon copy of the first, both players combining with the same end result.
It was Briscoe again on the scoresheet, this time with a solo effort resulting from the intensive pressing of the defence and goalkeeper, earning him a first half hattrick with another well taken finish.
Next it was the turn of captain Hellewell, with some delightful footwork in the middle of the park opening up a chance of a shot, which was despatched with precision into the far corner, giving the visiting keeper no chance.
As the clocked ticked down Redfearn's continued to press the life out of the visitors, constantly keeping them on the back foot and under pressure. Cherry went close with a long range free kick which rattled the cross bar. but the final Redfearn's goal was an early contender for goal of the season from Longley. A loose ball in midfield was latched onto by Longley, who smashed a 25 yard rocket of a shot diagonally over the keeper into the far corner of the goal, with the keeper not even attempting to try and save it.
A good mornings work for the boys, with every player playing their part in a performance full of intensity, defensive strength and attacking intent, which they should all be proud of. 🔥
