Qualified 20th in the 24 hour on less than ideal conditions to say the least. A wet windy start to a long race. Race starts at 12 today
Mixed Emotions Racing #269
Mixed Emotions Racing. It's all in the name! motorbikes and banter
Teesside Race report
After making a last minute purchase of a completely stock road bike GSXR 125, and deciding to sell our Yam in the leading week it was stress city hoping all the parts turned up in time to slap them on and head on up.
With two riders not being able to make it. It was only me and Dave Rendall for the weekend.
Test day, After some laps on GSXR it was noted very quickly that its not as comfy as the old Yam! so extra foam pads where duck taped to the tank to help with some minor changes to suspension.
Race day, both riders taking part in sprints qualified 1st and 2nd overall and 1st in respected classes (CB500 and SV650) Onto the first race CB started 7th on the grid and made me work a bit passing the bigger bikes in the opening laps before securing first place over all and in class. Dave unfortunately having a bit of a lay down and not finishing.
Second race Good start got the hole shot and quickly noted a green ER not far behind. He certainly did a good job of keeping the pressure on pushing me to do a personal best lap. Mid way through the race noticing he was no longer there and because of the early fast laps had a considerable lead so I calmed it down and took it steady for the win 1st overall.
Third sprint. Weather was looking sketchy and overcast knew it would likely rain and right enough on the 3rd lap spits started coming. Backed off straight away with the thought of just finishing and not having a silly off. Passed on the later laps by a Ducati twin made for a bit of close racing especially on the last lap where I managed to get round the outside leading into the tighter in field, to my surprise being bumped into the first right hand hair pin I stood the bike up to watch him sail down the inside. 2nd over all 1st in class with some Ducati paint on my exhaust.
4 Hour Endurance, With Dave injured I qualified in at 30th not the best but happy enough, race start so me get a good start and drop to 19th by the end of the first lap. and then the heavens opened. after a terrible tyre change we lost all the positions we made and more going back out at 46th. Dave going steady away just getting the laps in. The wet is certainly not our strongest area put slowly pushing saw the times come down getting more comfortable with the bike. doing well to get back to 33rd with 20 minutes to go before being skittled by a rider behind, quickly sorting a foot peg and bars back out to finish the race in 38th. Two exhausted sore riders after a very Mixed Emotions Day.
A massive thank you to John Boon for helping with the start and everything else across the weekend.
