What makes Melrose?

It's simple.....
Different generations coming together, sharing time outdoors, good laughs, good company, and a shared passion. The younger ones may bring the energy, but the older generation brings experience, patience, and usually a few tricks that only come from years of walking the same ground.

And every now and then they remind everyone they’ve still got it β€” whether that’s through some brilliant shooting… or by mysteriously finishing the day with half the cartridges left! πŸ˜„

Always a pleasure!

❄️ πŸ’¦πŸŒŠ β˜• Hot Drinks Alert β˜•πŸŒŠπŸ’¦ ❄️
Jack frost has blown a pipe and we are struggling for water tomorrow. Despite hosting the best torches in the world ( Helios UK ) the cold and dark has beaten us and we may struggle to get it back in time for the morning (also a spare or so short). Plenty of water available if you can catch it 😭

Bring a flask or a bottle of water to top the kettle up just in case. Tea and coffee free tomorrow too! There is some water bottles that can be used in the fridge too....

So we found a board from the other week....did you beat Roland?!?

Well, not today...Rolly wasn't marking his own round and put in a whopping 42/50. A hunter team went round again to knock him off but after completing 3 stands of the 8 in the top field....his score was already out of reach. Nearest to him was 6 away with a 36, a few with 34 and I couldn't find more than 33.
The 8 stands will remain for the foreseeable but again will be different every shoot.

The legendary "7" had been installed ready for a new compak layout but may need tweaking after 2 men with semi autos depleted their pockets trying to find it.

Hard layout but enjoyed by all, I actually got to shoot for a change too 😍. Roland is officially the last winner of 2025 (we won't mention s***t though πŸ˜‹), congratulations πŸ‘ πŸŽ‰ πŸŽ‚

Big thanks to the momma Hume and Ruth who both russled up the free grub and Richard who donated the sausage rolls. Also a big thanks to the Riggs for 48 years of hosting us and all the helpers who turn out when needed, you know who you are! Top scorer and trapper of the year goes to Paul William Sykes, thank you as always too. If we all survive the current blight on shooters there will be some celebration to have for a big 50!

An advanced Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you in 2026. Bi-weekly throughout and some summer nights scheduled. For now though, the traps are off, the clays sleeping and we will see you in a couple of weeks. Thank you for all who supported this year and those before.

This weekend we are extending the Sporting layout to make more stands. The s***t and Compak layout are set to be used for the Sporting untill the shed layouts are complete (or possibly longer)

With only two stands of a minimum 7 being in the s***t field, we can still shoot the s***t but will work it around the sporting...slots will be available for s***t but please be organised and ready!

It's a big space and it's not getting the use so we thought we would be a little creative, sure people won't object.

Likely to be a little moist this week so please wear your wellies (clearly I didn't listen)... Parking at the back and on the front. Drive through if you can. If your struggling we can hopefully get someone to pick you up in santas sleigh to get you and gear down! There is a longer term plan but it's all a bit impossible with current conditions.

Christmas Shoot is set to be the 28th December!
There will be a novice layout for those who may have a guest/new shot but please let us know in advance as there's a form needs completing. We can work it in. Christmas jumper competition too and if we can convince a particular regular to dress up, Santa may appear. Please cast votes for this in the comments and we can see if peer pressure gets them dressed in red πŸ˜‚ Follow the event as we post more details!

See you Sunday 😘

Another new trap to the collection....the plan is slowly coming together! The AI photo looks sweet but in reality it's the one in the mucky workshop.

Double rise is back for tomorrow and hoping to have the compac ready for the Christmas Shoot.
Also have a UV Glow night shoot looming once the testing phase has been completed.

Set for dry weather tomorrow but the huts will be in use anyway. Wear boots or wellies, the sky gods have had a good go at flooding the lands but it isn't to bad.

See you tomorrow!

A picture paints a thousand words or in this case 5 words : YOU CAN PARK HERE TOMORROW.
Through the yard, between the sheds and round the back. Don't park past the toilet block, leave a track through.
It is damp and a little muddy, it's a farm. So alternatively park in the front usual spot and walk through if preferred.

See you tomorrow!
