21ST Electric Fly-In 2026
6 Sept 2026
Our 21st Annual Electric Fly-In is the biggest event each year in our club's calendar.
Once again the event attracted a good number of flyers and spectators including many guests from other clubs. The club field was looking good despite the long dry summer’s effects, thanks to the team of members who look after the grass year-round. Also it was the first outing for the clubs new gazebo.
With a steady breeze from the South and sunny skies the weather gods were not as kind as they could have been, but despite that, it didn’t stop the flying. The standard of flying by all the pilots was excellent throughout the day, making for a great spectacle yet again.
Once more we had many excellent aircraft in attendance. Last year’s BMAC Award winner John Hutson from Epson returned with his DHC Twin Otter. This year the BMAC Award went to Mike Spencer from the Salisbury club, who brought and flew a range of vintage design control-line models converted to RC, such as the George Aldrich-designed Peacemaker.
The highlight of the day was the Nakajima Ki-43 Oscar, built from a Hangar 9 ARTF kit, much modified with scale details. The owner Nigel Nixon from the Maidenhead club collected the Best Model award at the end of the day. Nigel will be competing with the Oscar in this weekend British Scale Nationals at Buckminster, we wish him good luck.
Chairman Bob McAlpine ably assisted by Peter Love provided the traditional BBQ fare, with teas, coffees, and cakes including some great cakes provided by members. Many thanks, to you both for your endurance and also to anyone who bought cakes. It was very much appreciated.
The day ended with the raffle and prize giving. The raffle this year raised £165 towards the Club funds. A super big thank you goes out to our incredibly generous raffle prize sponsors Dominic Mitchell of Essential RC and to HobbyKing. Also thanks to the people who brought along items on the day for prizes.
You may have also noticed Mike Freeman from the RCM&E taking pictures and talking to everyone, in past years he’s taken some 1500 pictures on the day, so we’re looking forward to seeing a good write up of the event in the RCM&E in the future.
A final thank you goes to everyone who attended for making it a wonderful day, and to the volunteers, who help with set up, put away and make the day run smoothly.
We hope you come again and if you couldn't make it this year; we hope to see you next year.
Roy Thompson.
