Basingstoke Town Women 2–2 Wallingford & Crowmarsh
Wallingford win 4–1 on penalties
Basingstoke Town Women were knocked out of the FA Cup Preliminary Round on penalties after a frustrating 2–2 draw with Wallingford & Crowmarsh.
Town made the perfect start, taking the lead after just 3 minutes through Daisy, who scored her first competitive goal for the club and first in senior football. 💙👏
Wallingford equalised in the 7th minute, but Basingstoke responded quickly, with Courtney restoring the lead in the 11th minute.
Town controlled much of the game and had the better of the play, but despite creating opportunities, couldn’t find the crucial third goal to put the tie to bed.
Wallingford eventually equalised again in the 73rd minute, sending the game to penalties.
Unfortunately, the shootout went the hosts’ way, with Wallingford winning 4–1 on penalties.
A hugely frustrating result after leading for so long and having the run of play for much of the match. The biggest positive is the performance — the girls showed plenty of quality and promise, but will know they need to be more ruthless in front of goal.
The FA Cup journey ends here, but the competitive season is only just beginning.
