My 14 year old son has been coming to gym with me this holiday. He has never been in a public gym before and it’s been such a great opportunity for me to teach him Gym 101 Health, Safety and Social Etiquette.

Here are some of the things I have taught him…

1️⃣ Put your phone away, unless it’s to change your playlist or track your weights. This is YOUR time, and you don’t need to go down a social media rabbit hole. It’s also selfish if someone is waiting for your machine & you’re having a laugh on TikTok.

2️⃣ A sweat towel is compulsory. Do I need to elaborate?

3️⃣ Be fair regarding time on a machine. People who take 20 mins on the one and only leg extension machine are selfish and unaware. Do what you need to do and move on.

4️⃣ Time your rest periods in between sets. Both for your own progress, as well as for point 3 above. 60-120 secs is enough, depending on the lift.

5️⃣ If you don’t listen to point 1, then at least wear bloody AirPods - nobody wants to hear your videos/music/FaceTime with your buddies!

6️⃣ Wear deodorant. I don’t mind if you smell after your workout. But arriving with body odour is unacceptable.

7️⃣ Do your teeth if training in the morning. No one likes morning mouth - especially if you’re running next to someone on the treadmill. Again, socially unacceptable.

8️⃣ Unrack your plates and pack away your dumbbells. Keep your station “tidy.” Not doing this is plain lazy.

9️⃣ Wipe down your mat after using it. Every gym has a sanitiser spray and wipes.

What would you add to help my little man? ⬇️

In 2021, at age 37, I decided to stop “eating clean” and I quit running everyday. Within 3 months, my body completely changed.

Here are 20 foods I always have in my house:

👉 Protein yoghurt
👉 Steelcut oats
👉 Frozen raspberries & blueberries
👉 Apples
👉 Broccoli
👉 Baby spinach
👉 Avo
👉 Tomatoes
👉 Cucumber
👉 Sweet potato
👉 Cottage cheese
👉 Chicken
👉 Sourdough
👉 Olive oil
👉 Extra-lean mince
👉 Eggs
👉 Salmon
👉 Peanut butter (sugar free)
👉 Parmesan
👉 Hummus

I do the following:

✨ Build every meal around protein (30g per main meal)
✨ Veggies add bulk to the meals + fibre
✨ I dont avoid carbs - they are my training fuel
✨ Fats support my hormones (but always mindful of portions)

My personal fitness journey💛

My love for fitness started early. At 14, I fell in love with running. I represented my Province in cross-country and hockey - always a keen sportswoman who thrived on competition and movement.

At University, I ran my first half marathons (including one with my Granny Enid, still one of my favourite memories). Before long, I tackled full marathons, ultras, and by 26, the Comrades Marathon - 90 brutal kilometres.

That race was my first real taste of failure. I hobbled over the finish line in just under 12 hours - injured, shattered, and broken. I had started a beast of a race without being adequately trained, and my body paid the price.

Fast forward two years to my first baby. My doctor insisted on a c-section because of my small frame. I fought hard for a natural birth and it was the best thing I’ve ever advocated for. I was back training just 6 weeks later. That moment lit a fire in me - I wanted to empower women to advocate for their strength and believe in themselves too.

I qualified as a Personal Trainer, specialising in pre- and postnatal fitness. After my second baby, I trained my first client. I started as a mobile PT, driving around with equipment in my boot, before converting part of my home into a small studio with a neon light!

Up until 2020, HIIT workouts and running were my go-to. But as fit as I was, my body had plateaued. I wasn’t strong, and I wasn’t seeing change. That’s when I hired a coach and started strength training. It was a game-changer.

I completely transformed my body composition, losing just 2kgs but feeling stronger, leaner, and more balanced. Most importantly, I learned fitness isn’t about burning out - it’s about building strength, fuelling your body, and creating balance.

That’s what I now coach other women to do. To combine training, nutrition, and lifestyle so they can unlock the unrivalled feeling of being their healthiest, strongest self.

My Weekly Training Schedule for a Half Marathon 🏃

I recently ran the Mauritius Half Marathon, and I won myself 2000 Rupees of KFC Vouchers 😂 Exactly what I’ve always wanted!

People often ask me how I balance strength training and running, which is a great question.

So many of my clients have only ever done cardio, so to get their heads around adding resistance training to the mix is quite a battle (and one which I am prepared to go to war over as it will change your life!)

Running is my drug, my endorphin kick, my therapy, and where I get my biggest business/life ideas. Of course, there are huge heart & overall health benefits to cardio as well, so I get to tick that box too.

Strength training is my structure, where I see progress and tangible results, and where my A-type personality really comes into play, as I focus on form and building muscle. It’s also my insurance policy as I slowly creep towards mid-40!

I cannot imagine a world where I am not strong and capable. The day Sav can beat me in an arm wrestle will be a sad day for me (its coming faster than I think!)

Here’s what my training week looks like in the build-up to a 21km race (be mindful that if I am running a marathon then mileage will obviously increase)

➡️ Monday: Upper body workout
➡️ Tuesday: Treadmill interval/speed session + 15 min core workout
➡️ Wednesday: Lower body workout
➡️ Thursday: Yoga OR 10km zone 2 run, depending on what my body needs
➡️ Friday: Full Body workout
➡️ Saturday: REST DAY (sleep, brunch, family walk, swim in the sea, drink aperol!)
➡️ Sunday: Long run - 60 mins+ and longer as I get closer to race day. I won’t run further than approx 18km before a half marathon, unless I get bullied into it!

Hills I will die on as a fat loss coach for women 💥

1. You didn’t get fat in a month. So stop expecting the same in reverse. Patience, consistency and honesty (with yourself) are your keys to success.

2. Cardio is not a great tool for fat loss. It makes you starving & burnt out, it doesn’t increase your BMR, and it doesn’t change your body.

3. If you’re in a calorie deficit and not losing weight, you’re not in a calorie deficit.

4. Electrolytes, collagen, and greens powders are adding very little to your net health.

5. Genes load the gun. Lifestyle pulls the trigger.

6. A structured strength training program followed consistently for a min of 12 weeks+ will change your life.

7. Menopause makes fat loss harder. But the same mechanism for weight loss still applies - a calorie deficit.

8. In a world where online shopping & being sedentary has become the norm, get off your arse and walk. Your steps count for more than you realise.

Which one cut you deep? 😬 👇

There’s no magic meal plan or secret supplement.

Just habits I don’t negotiate.

I stay lean because I stay consistent - not perfect.

I train with intention, walk every day, eat real food, recover properly, and honour my boundaries.

Balance isn’t luck. It’s discipline, without the burnout or obsession.

Comment “Coaching” if you’re done chasing quick fixes and ready to build results that actually stick.
