British Regional Tournament South West Trials:
We took an amazing number of 17 players back to Weston-Super-Mare for the new fangled event called the British Regional Tournament.
Taken part in a triple elimination Swiss style tournament, most players started off slowly, clearly because of the cold of Weston 🥶. However we soon warmed up and showed the region what we were capable of, even with the tiredness and long waits starting to show their effects.
Star performers include: Thomas Malins, Jake Gander, Sam Kernott-McAvoy, Surfiyan Surti and Jonny Pugsley getting a 3/5 win record!
Leanne Sinclair also deserves a special mention for almost certainly qualifying for the Ladies team in her first main competition (3/5 wins)!
Most importantly, the team were amazing throughout! They supported each other where they could and the atmosphere in the team was incredible! All the signs are there that this year will be a really good year for the club as it returns to the forefront of competition in the country!

Southerns 8 Ball Report:
We took 2 teams of 5 down to Weston Super-Mare, 8 of whom were making their tournament debuts!
The Saturday started with the individuals, where we had some very tough matches, but 3 of our players managed to make the 2nd day of the competition.
The team competition was formed of two groups of 6, with our 1sts and 2nds in different groups. The 2nds came out of the group with 3 wins and 2 losses to finish second in their group and qualify for the Championship! The 1sts went undefeated the entire day, taking 3 wins and 2 draws against Exeter and Essex 1sts. Massive shoutout to Oli who didn’t lose a team match all day!
Into Day 2, Lewis made a good run to the 4th round of the Individual Shield before losing a really close match 4-3. With that we went into the Teams Championship deciding group, run again as a group of 6 to decide who would win the title. The “Bath-Off” began the day with the 1sts winning 6-1. The 2nds then struggled against some really tough opposition, but still managed to get a draw against Exeter 3rds to end the tournament in 6th place.
The 1sts followed up this win with a magnificent win against our neighbours Bristol 1sts (6-4). Unfortunately their unbeaten run was ended by Exeter 1sts, losing 6-2 to the eventual winners. A tight 6-4 win against Exeter 3rds followed, before losing to Essex 1sts.
This meant that the 1sts finished in 3rd place, taking home the imaginary bronze medals!
Both teams should be insanely proud of their performances, especially given the level of competition and experience there was on offer there. While unfortunately we won’t be at BUCS 8-Ball (Good luck to all those competing in Stoke on Trent this weekend), we will be targeting BUCS Snooker to try and keep up this incredible momentum we have as a club.

Competition season is approaching! This is something we are all really looking forward to, nearly 20 months after our last competition! We would really encourage you all to sign up and compete for the university! We are selecting people for both our men’s and women’s teams. If you’re interested in competing, please post a message in the WhatsApp group or message one of the committee members.
There are 2 team try-out days. These will take place on:
Wednesday 8th Dec: 13:00-17:00
Thursday 9th Dec: 16:00-20:00
They will take place at Dartmouth Avenue. You can go to either or both try-out days. If you cannot make either of these sessions, please let us know (on WhatsApp or by email), as we would like to see you play at least once before Christmas.
The purpose of these sessions is to gauge the relative ability of the club. Teams will not be decided through this alone and will also be dependent on interest for each tournament. No one who expressed an interest will be excluded from the possibility of representing the Uni.
That’s it from us for now – if you have any questions, please let us know!
