Interesting article to consider: firstly what is your predominant relationship with past/present/future time position and secondly what happens when you consciously shift your time perspective? Given so much emphasis is given to “being present/in the now” this offers a counter argument and one where (future) trajectory creates a different meaning or investment because it shifts our relationship to what is around us. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts!

Why take the linear path? So many clients seem to think we need to know where we are going and direct a straight path. This is a cultural progression bias that does not match the human experience. Judging our sideways tendencies against a false ideal means we are beating ourselves up for not complying to cultural expectations of constraint.

Many of us with tension don’t realise we are grinding our teeth at night. It’s very common to have a tense jaw - what are you biting down on, holding in or chewing over? To release tension it helps to pull silly faces, mime a horse chewing grass, bang your lips like you are making a Red Indian call and massage the temples and rub behind the ears down towards the neck. These all help the nervous system relax.

Many clients in their 50s become concerned about the legacy or inheritance for their children following their death, having spent years financing their education and supporting them to independence. It’s entirely possible those children might want nothing more for their parents than to enjoy the quality of their lives.
