How much better is life when the sun is out?🥰☀️
Ever wondered why we use so many different bits of equipment in barre?
Every one has a different job.
Take this exercise. The sequence stays the same, but swapping the Pilates ball for a yoga block completely changes the focus.
✨The ball makes you work a bit harder to stay balanced, so your core and stabilising muscles have to kick in.
✨The block gives you a solid base, so you can concentrate on getting lower into the movement and working through a bigger range.
The same goes for bands, weights and sliders too. I don’t just pick them at random - they’re there because they add something different.
There’s always a reason behind what we’re doing… even if it doesn’t look like it at first!
What props do you like using the most?👇🏼

A little re-introduction, because there are a few new faces!
I’m Beth, the face behind Grace & Grit Barre.
I teach low-impact barre classes across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, combining elements of ballet, Pilates and strength training. Expect plenty of shakes, lots of encouragement and to leave feeling like you’ve worked hard.
My aim has always been to create classes that are challenging, welcoming and enjoyable, whether it’s your first class or your fiftieth.
The messages in this post are from people who’ve come along over the last few months, and reading them never gets old. Thank you to everyone who’s trusted me enough to give barre a try.
You’ll find me teaching every week in:
• Hitchin
• Flitwick
• Caddington
• Stevenage
• Shefford
Messages are always open for questions, and if you’ve been thinking about trying barre, I’d love to see you in class!
No judgement here… unless you picked D 🤣

One of the most common corrections I make in class…
✨ Plié vs Squat ✨
One of the biggest things I see in class is people turning a plié into a squat.
In a squat, we naturally send our hips back. In a plié, we want to keep our hips underneath our shoulders as we lower down. If the hips drift back, the lower back can start to arch, which may lead to discomfort over time.
Think about gently tucking your pelvis, engaging your core, keeping your chest lifted and your shoulders stacked over your hips. Your spine should feel long and supported throughout the movement.
Gym girls, I see you 🙋♀️ Rewiring your brain from squat posture to barre posture isn’t easy, but once it clicks, you’ll feel such a difference!
