🦅 MEET THE GAFFA — HUGH ‘JUNIOR’ DONNELLY

At the heart of Bedworth Eagles Men’s Team and Saturday Team is our manager, Hugh ‘Junior’ Donnelly — although to the lads, he’s simply The Gaffa. 💙

Junior lives and breathes Bedworth Eagles. He’s disciplined, organised and demands the very best from his players — not just on the pitch, but in the way they conduct themselves and the respect they show one another.

What people see is the Gaffa on the touchline — usually the loudest person there! 😂 What they don’t see are the countless hours of work that go on behind the scenes. The planning, organising, structured weekday training sessions and everything else that comes with running the teams.

And Junior isn’t always standing on the sidelines at training either... every now and then you’ll see the Gaffa putting his boots back on and getting stuck into a session with the lads himself! ⚽😂

He gives up his weekends week after week because this club and these lads mean so much to him.

Junior has watched and helped some of these players progress from kids into adults, and he continues to push them forward. He knows when they need encouragement, when they need direction... and when they need a good old-fashioned kick up the backside! 😂

He’s passionate — sometimes maybe a little TOO passionate... if you know, you know! 😂 — but everything he does comes from wanting the very best for his players and for Bedworth Eagles.

He drives the standards. He sets the expectations. He’s loved and respected by the lads, our sponsors and so many of the parents who have watched him support and develop these players over the years.

A lot of what Junior does will never be seen on a matchday, but the results of that work can be seen in the players and the teams he has helped build.

🦅 Chetwynd FC 2–4 Bedworth Eagles

Bedworth Eagles headed to Chetwynd FC today looking to build on last week’s impressive 3–1 victory over Grendon, while Chetwynd came into the game beating Standard Bearer in their opening fixture. We knew we were in for a tough test and that’s exactly what it proved to be.

The opening 20 minutes were tight, with both sides battling hard and feeling each other out. But then the Eagles exploded into life, scoring three goals in just 15 minutes!

⚽ 25’ – Axel 0–1

A wonderful through ball from Jake released Axel into space down the right. Axel showed fantastic pace and determination, beating three Chetwynd defenders before keeping his composure and firing a superb right-footed finish into the bottom corner. An outstanding individual goal!

⚽ 30’ – Axel 0–2

Just five minutes later, Axel was on the scoresheet again. A perfectly timed run from midfield by Brad saw him get a shot away which was parried by the Chetwynd keeper. Axel was quickest to react, calmly slotting home for his second of the afternoon.

⚽ 40’ – Brad 0–3

The Eagles continued to cause problems down the right, with Dylan and George combining brilliantly. George then delivered an excellent ball across the face of goal, where Brad was on hand to produce a composed right-foot finish and make it 3–0.

Chetwynd were awarded a penalty shortly before half time, but the effort was put over the bar and the Eagles went into the break with a 3–0 lead.

Chetwynd came out fighting after the break and were awarded another penalty in the 52nd minute, reducing the deficit to 3–1. The hosts then pulled another goal back in the 64th minute after a quick counter-attack saw them break down the left and make it 3–2.

The game was now firmly in the balance, but this Eagles side showed tremendous character.

The players dug deep, battled for every ball and defended their lead, with the players coming on from the bench showing exactly the same intensity, work rate and desire.

And eventually, that resilience was rewarded…

⚽ 85’ – Scholesy 2–4

LIAM. SCHOLSEY. GAME OVER. 🦅

Liam whipped a fantastic ball into the box and found Scholesy, making his return to Sunday football. Scholesy produced a superb header back across the goalkeeper and into the net to seal a massive three points for the Eagles!

⭐ Man of the Match – Logan

Today’s Man of the Match was Logan, who battled from the first whistle to the last and caused Chetwynd problems throughout the game down the left-hand side. A brilliant performance and thoroughly deserved recognition. 👏

A fantastic game played in great spirits between both sides, and we wish Chetwynd FC all the best for the rest of the season.

The victory means the Eagles move up to 4th place, with two wins from our opening three league games. 🦅📈

Axels goal Vs Fissc res today! Assist Michael!

We made the long journey over to Stratford today to play a good Fissc Res side.

The game started well for the lads controlling a lot of the play and creating chances we just couldn’t find the break through and seen us go into halftime 0-0!

2nd half was more of the same as the lads stayed patient and kept building play well.
Around the 60 min mark George got in down the right side to drill a lovely cross for Jamie ⚽️ to finish well 1-0! We kept pushing as Fissc started to slow and again found space on the right this time with Michael whipping a cross to the back post and Axel ⚽️ meeting it with a good header to make it 2-0. At this point it was all Eagles with Fissc struggling to get out their half and again we got in down the right, Brandon squared it and Stogie ⚽️ done the rest with a cool finish to seal a 3-0 win. Over all a strong display from the lads showing a lot of maturity today staying patient and waiting for their chances, defensively solid restricting Fissc Res to long shots and hopeful punts!
MoM went to Michael 🏆 in his first start for Eagles showing what he can do in the middle of the park with a solid performance and an assist with it! Well done m8!
