East Coast Eagles 48-53 OilΓ©an Hounds

Last night our East Coast Eagles took on the hounds up in ballygawley in what was a cold yet fiery contest.

It was the eagles who started the stronger of the two sides dominating the ruck & centre clearances but unfortunately not able to take advantage of the opportunities early on with a bag full of behinds in the first few minutes.

The hounds came back strong and kicked a couple of goals.

The eagles managed to regain their composure and strike back with a few goals of their own in what was a very end to end game.

The eagles midfield did not stop all night constantly contesting every single possession / loose ball around the park.

We just fell short in the end but there are so many positives to take away from this game.

The new lads really taking the game by the scruff and playing with a new found confidence which is an absolute credit to them, growing in ability every single session.

Other big shoutouts go to Wallsy, Niall Mc Clements, Mick Daley,Jason, Cillian and not to mention Brandon Cochrane kicking his first major for the eagles with a cute dribbler from 30 out.

Next up is the carnival round this Saturday in Belfast where everything is to play for as we edge one step closer to finals footy.

East coast eagles (3.8)26 - (5.18) 48 Mid Ulster Scorpions

On Wednesday evening we faced the mid Ulster scorpions in holywood for what was always going to be a tightly contested game.

The eagles start off the better of the two teams taking an early lead through Stevie Glennon, After an uncontested mark around 25 meters out he composed himself and slotted through with no issues at all.

The scorpions hit back with a goal of their own and played some really slick football through the centre but unfortunately just couldn’t get their kicking lines straight in the first quarter.

Just before the end of quarter one the eagles had a free kick on the boundary from around the same distance which David Cullen was able to take charge of and slot through to regain the lead just before the break.

After half time the scorpions used their experience & ball movement really well and kept the pressure on the eagles. Their dominance from centre clearances and clean marks allowed them to kick another few goals to extend their lead.

In the fourth quarter an eagles kick out from their own goal square managed to find its way deep into the scorpions defensive 50 and after a bit of wrestling for the ball it was Bryan McGettigan who was the sharpest to react taking control of the ball and kicking the eagles third goal of the game.

All in all a great hit out for our new eagles side against a very strong organised unit in the scorpions all credit to them as they played with intensity and used their experience to get over the line.

EAST COAST EAGLES 49-30 QUB TYRANTS πŸ‰

Tuesday night saw the return of AFLNI’s winter league in a fiercely fought contest between the students of QUB & The Eagles.

Nothing but 4 points separated the two sides for 3 quarters of the game. QUB came out of the traps with intensity, pace and let the eagles know they weren’t messing about.

A lot of really strong debutants for both sides took the game right to the wire. In an end to end game with plenty of slick footy on show in a game which could’ve went either way.

It was in the fourth quarter the eagles pulled away with a couple of goals in quick succession which cemented them the win in the end.

An absolute credit to all the QUB players and management as the work going on behind the scenes for recruitment and the effort these guys are putting in around trainings has been top class.

Next we go up against the reigning premiers Mid Ulster Scorpions on their home patch in what is lining up to be a great contest.
