One of my clients asked me the other day what calories were...

It made me think about how often we see calories been thrown around on the internet and how little they're actually explained in detail.

So I thought I'd write a post to explain a bit about what calories are, and why we need to know this if we are trying to adapt our body composition (lose/ gain weight)

๐˜พ๐™–๐™ก๐™ค๐™ง๐™ž๐™š๐™จ ๐™–๐™ง๐™š ๐™€๐™‰๐™€๐™๐™‚๐™” โšก๏ธ

If we consume too much energy - and our body canโ€™t use it - we store it as fat.

If we consume too little energy - our body releases energy from our stores - this can be fat stores or muscle.

By exercising regularly and fuelling yourself appropriately you can prevent muscle from being used as energy and maximise fat stores being used.

Even though a calorie deficit is necessary for weight loss, eating too few calories consistently can cause problems to your metabolism.

Plus, if you focus on reducing calories rather than using more calories for weight loss purposes then you will potentially restrict your own ability to eat enough other important nutrients.

I hope this helps explain what calories are a bit more!

If you're unsure how many calories you should be eating to reach your goals - there are many free resources online (calorie & macro calculators) that can help you figure out whatโ€™s best for you in relation to your calorie needs...

Well, im here to tell you that everyone in the gym is there to do their own workouts and better themselves (this is going off 10+ years experience)

I was once that person too, afraid that I would be judged until I looked around and realised nobody was looking at me (the new girl/guy)

This is where I, a coach comes into play! Il teach you correct techniques on different movements , how to program your workouts, nutritrional advice, etc.

Client Dylan smashing a squat personal best of 105kg ๐Ÿ’ช

Dylan has only been training with myself just over 2 months now and already up and well above the weight he could ever dream of lifting

By Dylan lifting heavier weights week in, week out he has gained a lot of muscle and his body fat has also decreased while doing so!

The big lad is feeling amazing physically & more importantly mentally. This is all down to him looking after himself and building his confidence

Client Dylan deadlifting for his second time under my coaching methods!

When Dylan was deadlifting from the ground it felt uncomfortable and his form was off a little. A few small adjustments and Dylan felt a lot more comfortable and as you can see his technique is not far off perfection!

Sometimes you just need a simple adjustment & a little patience. Dont just give up

The biggest & best in their categories once had to start at the start too!
