The Bigger Picture workshop: Tuesday 19th October, Waterstones Ground Cafe, Belfast. It will begin at 10.00am and end at 12.00.
Participants will learn how picture storybooks and children's literature can be used to nurture both you and your children's emotional wellbeing. Embrace their power to deepen comprehension, make complex ideas accessible, engage the emotions and instil a creative mind set. A five pound charge can be paid on the morning of the workshop. I am running a workshop called "The Big Picture," for parents, teachers, community and health workers. The aim of the workshop is to help adults enhance children's social-emotional literacy. A growing body of research shows a link between the use of social-emotional literacy/intelligence and academic achievement, prosocial behaviour, reductions in in aggression, mental health problems and substance abuse.
I will introduce participants to books, that provoke questions and conversations about how we think, feel, and live our lives. They will be shown how these books can be used as a resource for nurturing emotional in the classroom and at home .Creative activities will high light the messages contained in the story and the beautiful illustrations.
