Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and self defence classes for adults and children on Boucher Road, Belfast

13/06/2026

What to learn BJJ?⁣

It doesn’t take extreme athleticism, crazy levels of fitness & flexibility, or being on the mats 7 days a week. ⁣

It takes some courage to go sign up. ⁣
It takes some discipline to get off the sofa ⁣
It takes a good attitude ⁣
And it takes leaving your ego at home, accepting you’ll suck at this for a while, but enjoying the process of leaning and improving every day. ⁣

If you want to be the person with the skills, the fitness, and the great experiences you’ll get from learning this sport, then you have to be prepared to begin. And be a beginner!!!⁣

Excuses are what’s holding you back. Leave them at home, set yourself a big goal, and do whatever it takes to get there 💪💪⁣

See you on the mats ⁣
Dave

Another great week of training in the bag for all of our classes. ⁣

We welcomed some complete beginners into the team this week and they did amazingly well. And it was great to see even the 6am early morning class with such a strong turnout. ⁣

Beginners to advanced students, Gi or NoGi, you’ve all made it an awesome week or training and great craic to be around you all. ⁣

Keep pushing yourselves. Even through the horrendous weather this week, you stayed strong to your goals. Well done.

𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞⁣

Massive congratulations to all of kids who levelled up in belts this week. ⁣

The classes are packed in all age groups (4-15) and the kids have shown real dedication and effort to keep working on themselves and their skills. ⁣

Not only have they all picked up great new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills, but to see them develop in confidence and discipline as they grow has been awesome for the whole team. Future stars 🙌⁣

And thank you to the whole coaching team who have worked with the children week on week to teach, mentor, and guide them on the journey of our sport and how to become amazing little people who will be able to deal with anything that life throws at them

Team ❤️⁣

The people you meet along the way are as important as the skills you learn. ⁣

We’ll soon be 8 years old at Icon Belfast and I’ve made genuine friends for life. It’s the best of craic when you get to improve and do your sport with people you really wanna be around

SUMMER GRADING 2026⁣

A big one this year! We promoted those who were ready to move up in belts. And we had the pleasure of to make the grading even more special ⁣

What does it take to get promoted in BJJ???? ⁣
👉To begin as a young child? NO⁣
👉To have crazy genetically gifted athletic ability? NO⁣
👉To have an easy life and no responsibilities so you can dedicate all your time to training??? DEFINITELY NOT!⁣

The people you see here all have real lives, real responsibilities and every challenge that all of us have. ⁣

But they don’t quit. They don’t make excuses. They don’t expect it to be easy. ⁣

After a few years, it’s the Blue belt. A great achievement for anybody. Well done Ronan, Mark, Chris and Dermot 💪💪⁣

After a good while longer, the purple belt. So many quit at blue belt because they focused on belts and forgot about why they started in the first place. Purple seems too far away. But it isn’t!!⁣
Well done Connor on your purple belt. This is a massive step up. ⁣

And our biggest grading so far - the black belt ⁣
⬛️⬛️⬛️🟥⁣
CONGRATULATIONS Dave Hill. This takes patience, determination, and a will power that most people believe they have, but few will make the sacrifices to really achieve it. ⁣

Well done to all of you.

Over the years, we’ve helped hundreds of children build confidence, resilience, discipline, and real self-defence skills through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.⁣

And every week at Icon Jiu Jitsu Belfast, we continue to help kids of all ages grow — not just as athletes, but as people. 👊⁣

There’s something powerful about a child knowing how to stay calm under pressure, stand up for themselves, and believe in their own abilities.⁣

That confidence carries into school, friendships, and everyday life.⁣
The lessons learned on the mats go far beyond sport.

HAVING DAILY GOALS⁣

We all know the feeling. One day of bad eating, no activity and poor choices quickly turns into a month, then a year …… !!!⁣

Having daily goals that keep you on the right path massively affect the small daily choices we make that add up to our overall lifestyle and who we’re becoming. ⁣

If you want health, fitness, and a great set of skills to be proud of then it doesn’t happen with one massive effort for a week or two. It’s the day to day choices that really add up. ⁣

Our classes give structure to help the students make better daily choices. Having training and a team that you enjoy being around means the daily battle is a lot easier to stick to. It’s these small choices that really add up over time. ⁣

Getting results isn’t about a new fad diet or latest training craze. It’s the consistent small daily efforts that add up over time

One thing that’s really important to me is making sure beginners feel looked after.⁣

I never want someone walking into their first class feeling lost or thrown in at the deep end.⁣

That’s why every beginner class here is structured, instructor-led, and designed to help you build confidence from day one.⁣

Come join us and get involved learning BJJ at Icon 🤙
