Wow! What an incredible day for us, we normally run but recovering from surgeries meant we couldn't today.

We decided to Volunteer to give a little back to the running community at yesterday's Expo and today at Mile 9 cheering and supporting all you amazing runners. Giving us the opportunity to see what a positive impact volunteers at runs can make.

Hope you all enjoyed the atmosphere at mile 9 - we did our best to give you all a wee boost along your 13.1mile journey.

Races can't happen if there aren't any volunteers... If for whatever reason you find yourself unable to run id highly recommend you get in touch with the organisers and volunteer.

Safe to say all the volunteers at Mile 9 and Applied Nutrition gel station crew enjoyed the playlist and our energy.

Ready to go for Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon 1/2 marathon this morning. We will be cheering all runners on as free you pass mile 9 at the Energy station.

On our way to volunteer at the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon Half Marathon Expo today. Good luck to all runners taking apart tomorrow. Hoping for decent weather conditions for everyone tomorrow. Supporting the event expo today and volunteering at Cornmarket tomorrow is an amazing way to stay connected to the running community and to give a little something back by donating our time to help out in anyway we can. Yes obviously we would love to be running and rolling with everyone tomorrow, however I'm not at that stage of my recovery just yet (hopefully we will be good to go for the Festive Dash in November).

parkrun Saturdays were back this morning thanks to Martin Doherty and Cb Mck (after their 7 mile warmup) for Katie-Louises 89th parkrun (59th at Waterworks). A dry morning for parkrun. 11 more to her 100th and all being well I will be able to push her around for her 100 milestone. It's great to see from the sidelines how much joy and happiness running and rolling brings to Katie-Louise, the smiles, the hand holding means so much (even with her vice like grip Leanne McConnell was lucky to prise her hand away before being trailed along the route 😜). It also means a lot to members of the local running community to see Katie-Louise out and about being included and enjoying it so much, a few people came up to me today and said how much they love to see Katie-Louise running and rolling and have missed seeing her and hearing the music. ♥️

Thank you to each and every person who also took the time to ask how my recovery is going so far.

6.5 week post fracture clinic update...things are heading in the right direction and healing post fractures is on track. The main worry going in this morning that the olecranon would have moved slightly thankfully it has stayed in place. Meaning that following the plan has worked. Yes, it may not be as quick as a recovery and getting back to full normal routine but all is going as well as can be expected. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting that little bit closer

As our non running continues a surprise delivery today brought a much needed happy ending to the summer of 2026.

Saturdays at parkrun, huge thanks to Martin Doherty Joanne Boal and Leah for running and rolling with Katie-Louise. It's now been 13 weeks post first surgery and now the brave has been removed and physio commences on Tuesday... Hopefully you'll see me out running again in a few months time. In the meantime I am grateful to our friends who offer to take Katie-Louise out for parkrun while I take pictures.

It's times like this when you know there's people around you that are happy to help out. Having been out every weekend for a few years and racing all over the country to suddenly stop left a huge void for Katie-Louise but today we saw that smile again, the happiness being surrounded by people she loves, the wind blowing her hair, hugs and Hi 5's means the world to her and us.♥️

It was also lovely to meet the Smyth family who visited Waterworks parkrun for the first time running and rolling with Daniel.

Update: so it looks like that locking the brace has done what it is supposed to do and the bone is healing as well as it...

Update: so it looks like that locking the brace has done what it is supposed to do and the bone is healing as well as it can be expected at this stage. The brace has now been opened up to 90degress extension but locked to prevent any pulling my arm up towards my shoulder. Back to fracture clinic next Thursday morning for another review. But will be another 2weeks before I get to see my main surgeon who is off on holidays.

Commencement of physio has been further delayed and needs consultant go ahead.

I never to expected to see anyone I know during my visit... How shocked and surprised to see Fergus Jamison worse for wear and having injured the opposite arm time . Fergus I truly hope your next steps will be guided by the expert clinicians and they look after you well. If you need anything just shout.

Hoping this sees the end of all the bad luck for everyone of late.

Today was an afternoon of fun as all roads led to Benone for Mae Murray Foundation first inclusive surf event of the year. With me unable to drive or participate Gerard and Catriona were on hand to get us there and witness close up how much Katie-Louise enjoys the water.

Today was made extra special by Katie-Louises participating side by side with her brother Dawson (first go at surfing) this is inclusion.
