I first submitted a proposal for the redevelopment and regeneration of Musgrave Park Tennis courts in 2014. That plan has pivoted and changed many times over the last 8 years but the core of my ambition was to get people playing tennis and to bring an opportunity to play tennis for the community in and around Musgrave Park and West Belfast. I think it’s fair to say that that has been achieved. I am however, ever earnest that the site needs much more investment to reach its potential of serving the community as a place for tennis all year round.
I have invested so much of my time, money, effort and my heart into making something happen at the tennis courts and regrettably I have decided that I can’t give anymore to it. My hope is that this site is properly invested in by Belfast City Council so it can become a space for tennis that could be of such a great benefit to the whole community in Belfast.
I’d like to especially thank my family and friends who have supported and helped me over the years with all the tennis events, posters, websites, flyers, tournaments, coaching and their steadfast encouragement through difficult times. Thank you also to the park staff for their work getting the grass courts up and running again.
Lastly, a big thank you to you - all of the adults and children (& the occasional dog!) who have come to all our open tennis tasters, coaching sessions and tournaments!
Thank you and much love, Laurence

Great news! The grass is cut, lines are painted and the nets are going up this weekend. The courts will be ready for tennis. A big thank you to all of the park staff for their hard work to prepare them!
You do not need to book or pay for the courts, they are free for everyone to use. Please use them fairly and with care. Be mindful of social distancing.
We hope to run some coaching and club sessions again this year. Details will be up soon, keep an eye on our page and the website. Hope to see you on the courts! 🎾

2020 – Coronavirus & tennis in the park…
So welcome to our Musgrave Tennis page. 2020 has turned out to be quite a year so far as I’m sure you all know and life has changed a lot.
This is normally the time of the year when we have our provisional schedule for the Summer but as we are all currently on Lockdown I wanted to give you an update about tennis and tennis in the park.
Around the world professional tennis has stopped and its unlikely given its truly international nature that it will be up and running as normal this year. We may be lucky to get a few big events towards the end of the year but as you know Wimbledon this year has been cancelled.
Here in Belfast tennis is not currently advised and in public parks or private clubs it cannot take place. Musgrave park is open at the moment for pedestrian access but the tennis courts are locked. The park management have advised they are maintaining the grass courts with the hope that if restrictions are lifted, tennis may be able to take place.
So everyone, watch this space. When we know more and if it is safe to do so, we hope to have tennis on in the park!
