A great day for the Wizards at the Hertfordshire Open Mixed Doubles Tournament in Hatfield today. Andy and Lee won gold again for the second year in a row in Division One, Tim and his partner won silver and Wendy and now former Wizard, Phil, won bronze. In Division 3, Darren and his partner won gold and Sue and Pete won bronze. There were lots of other Wizards taking part or supporting. It’s a brilliant, fun tournament where 3.0s get to play 4.5s, so give it a try next year if you can.

Our Wizard, Wendy, competed for South Africa at the Pickleball World Cup in Vietnam recently. Here is what she had to say about her time over there:

What an experience in Da Nang! Around 80 countries around the world participated in this from U12 to O60s. I was honoured to represent South Africa (I was born in Cape Town) in the Seniors O50s.

It was amazing to play countries from different parts of the world (I had to google map some of them), mostly the standard was incredibly high. We were playing Bonaire (island just above Venezuela, yes I had to search for it), I saw a chap who I recognised from Batchwood, Luis, he is from Bonaire! Pickleball is such an amazing community.
SA Seniors made the last 16 (out of 40 countries). We were knocked out by Brazil, who went on to win Gold in the Seniors O50, beating Spain in the finals. What a phenomenal match. We learned so much from watching them :

Our friendly team played a strong friendly team from SHARP at Batchwood on Monday afternoon. Everyone enjoyed some great matches but SHARP came out on top this time.
