Walkington Cricket Club

Another last-ball nail biter this week which we were on the right side of against Kirk Ella Cricket Club.

Kirk Ella won the toss and elected to bat and scored quickly with some wayward early bowling, but Al Wardle Juventa and Josh Styche eventually found their rhythm to take a few wickets. Some impressive hitting lower down saw Kirk Ella reach a respectable 207 all out.

A steady chase led by Dan Sage (Grahams Florists) and George Clark Barx Dog Grooming, supported Adrian Jack Westlands Chartered Accountants got us close but when wickets fell and all looked lost, up stepped academy graduate Max Foster whose 23 under pressure got us to within 1 run, and a last ball leg-bye saw us home. Another great game to be part of and thanks to Kirk Ella for being great hosts and our match ball sponsor Lions Den dog field. 👌

The Saturday team celebrated a last ball thriller against Welton and Brough Sports Club 2nd XI.

Electing to bat, Welton made the most of good batting conditions, cruising towards a good total. However, excellent pace off bowling from Uresh and Rory MortgageKey - Mortgage Broker saw quick wickets fall and them reach a getable 234.

Rory, and Pete helped get us close but with wickets falling it was Adrian Westlands Chartered Accountants who steadied the ship, and when it came to needing 3 off the last ball, he hit the winning runs to send the rest of the team into hysterics!

Another busy (and very warm) weekend at Beech View which kicked off with another well-attended evening of junior cricket on Friday for our All Stars, Dynamos and Softball sessions.

Saturday 23rd May:

Saturday saw our 1XI taking on our Beech View rivals (Hull Strikers Cricket Club) in the first J. Spence Memorial Trophy. Both teams came together at the beginning of the game to pay tribute and celebrate Jamie’s life with his friends, family and wider members of each club.

The emotional tribute would be followed by a game that was played with great intensity and spirit throughout in the same way that Jamie would approach each match he played. Standout performances from A Jack (68 runs not out), J Styche (4 wickets) and A Wardle (5 wicket haul) helped seal a victory for our 1XI and to become the first holders of the J Spence Memorial Trophy.

TEAM ANNOUNCEMENTS: Game Wk5

Here are our First Team XIs taking on Hull Strikers Cricket Club and Welton and Brough Sports Club this Bank Holiday Weekend in Holderness Div 1.

Jamie Spence Memorial Fixture Details:

This Saturday’s game at Beech View will be played in memory of Jamie Spence, a valued member of both Hull Strikers CC and Walkington Sunday XI, as a celebration of his life.

Both teams will wear black armbands, with a minute’s applause taking place before the game begins. There will also be an opportunity for family, friends, and members of both clubs to come together to share memories of Jamie.

Hull Strikers are encouraging everyone from both clubs and the wider community to join us as we remember Jamie together as one club.

Following the game, both teams will return to Ferguson Fawsitt.

This Saturday’s game at Beech View will be played in memory of Jamie Spence, a valued member of both Hull Strikers Cricket Club and Walkington Sunday XI.

Following the wishes of Jamie’s family, the match will serve as a celebration of his life and the impact he had across both clubs and our wider cricketing community. Jamie’s passing has deeply affected everyone who knew him, and Saturday will be an opportunity for us all to come together to remember him.
