‼️‼️DONT FEED OTHER PEOPLES HORSES‼️‼️
As I left our over flow yard today, I clocked a van in the village pulled up at a friend's paddock feeding there ponys with a large bag of carrots!!
'Their only carrots' is what the lady said to me as I asked her if she had been given permission to feed the horses!!
Even though it seems like a kind gesture, feeding someone else's horse can be incredibly dangerous—and even fatal.
Here is why:
• Severe Medical Conditions:
Many horses suffer from conditions like laminitis, EMS, or Cushings. Even a single apple, carrot, or handful of sweet feed can trigger a massive, painful medical emergency.
• Choke and Colic:
Feeding the wrong foods or cutting treats incorrectly can cause a horse to choke or experience severe colic, which is a leading cause of death in horses.
• Dietary Restrictions:
Some horses are on strict, medication-heavy diets. Extra food throws off their balance and can make their medications ineffective or toxic.
• Behavioral Issues:
Hand-feeding causes horses to become nippy and aggressive toward people, making them unsafe for children or their owners to handle.
If you see a horse in a paddock, please enjoy watching them from a safe distance, but keep the treats away.
If you are genuinely worried about a horse's weight or well-being,
please reach out to us directly or contact local authorities instead of taking matters into your own hands.
