Highwoods ladies Academy

Brilliant day in the sun for our ladies academy putting lesson.
The ladies over the past couple of month have come on leaps and bounds and are getting ready to hit the course.

Well done ladies for a very enjoyable day.

Also a special thank you to our ladies captain Doreen Upwood for attending the session and the lunch after to get to know the new ladies.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners after a fantastic day of golf in warm, breezy conditions. With the course playing firm and fast, accuracy was at a premium throughout the day.

Men’s Club Champion: Harry Bradbury

Harry’s course management was outstanding, choosing to hit his driver just four times all day. On a course where precision was more important than power, that strategy proved to be the winning formula.

Alison also produced a steely defence of her title, showing great composure and determination throughout to once again hold on to the Ladies’ Club Champion crown.

We are delighted to share that Highwoods Greenkeepers, Tommy, has been selected for the Future Turf Managers Initiative (FTMI) programme, hosted by the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) in partnership with Jacobsen Turf Mowers.

Each year, only 15 greenkeepers from across the UK are chosen from hundreds who apply to take part in this hugely respected development programme, making Tommy's selection a fantastic achievement and recognition of his hard work, dedication and potential within the industry.

The FTMI programme is designed to develop the next generation of turf management leaders through personal and professional development, mentoring and training from some of the industry's most experienced Course Managers, trainers and experts. Graduates gain valuable knowledge and leadership skills that help shape the future of golf course management.

Everyone at Highwoods is incredibly proud of Tommy for earning this opportunity. We are excited to see him develop throughout the programme and bring new ideas, knowledge and experiences back to Highwoods Golf Club, helping us continue to improve and deliver the best possible golfing experience for our members and visitors.

A huge good luck to Jay Penfold as he represents Highwoods this Tuesday and Wednesday at the English Disability Open Championship 2026 at The Shire London Golf Club, Hertfordshire!
