Newmarket Horseboarding Club was visited earlier this year by Mike Bushell from BBC Breakfast.

We are looking for 8 Elite teams, made up of one horse, one horse rider and one board rider, who can hold their own in a +28MPH race and carry the sport to the next stage on our 2027 UK Tour and be part of selection for the International Squad.
To be clear no one is expected to turn up and race Elite, all teams start in the Novice or Intermediate Class before being selected for the Advanced and Elite. There are examples of each class on our Youtube Channel HBUK Productions.

FAQ's
What kind of horses? Most horses can horseboard, We have trained everything from Shetlands to Shires. The important thing is the relationship between the horse and rider. This denotes the level of success for more than the bread or even temperament of the horse.
Of course both bread and temperament are also a factor but for smaller than you would think.
So basically, if you are an experienced rider and your horse trusts you we are on our way.
Does your horse have brakes? One of the biggest tell tail signs that a horse and rider are not on the same wave-length is brakes.
Here are the four main stages of breaks;
RESPONSIVE - Horse listens at any pace and works in the deceleration.
SPONGY - Horse tends to lean on the bit and falls into deceleration.
HEAVY - Same as Spongy but rider has to work harder.
HARD - Break Fail - horse takes the bit and accelerates only coming to a stop at the stable or a big enough wall. This can be the result of many different factors from teeth to training.
A good general rule is, If your horse does not have breaks before doing horseboarding it definitely wont have them after doing horseboarding.
Boarding Skills. - Any experience in any boarding crosses over. Even if you have never boarded but like the idea of it the basics are easy to pick up and if you have experience around horses even better
I don't have a full team I am either a rider and horse or a board rider.
Don't worry, we know other people in that situation and we can join you up with them.

What a weekend. To every rider, every boarder and every horse who came out and gave it everything - thank you.
🙌 Thank you to the organisers, the officials and the volunteers who put in the hours behind the scenes so the rest of us get to enjoy the racing. None of this happens without you.

😱 THREE LEAD CHANGES IN FOUR HEATS. Three tenths in Heat 1. Twenty eight hundredths in Heat 3. Inside a second of each other all weekend 🤝
📈 Section 89 got faster every single heat. 73.34, 72.55, 71.00, 70.35. Never went backwards. That final run is the quickest Elite lap of the weekend, and better than it looks - raw 68.35 with a two second ball penalty on top. 21.08 mph and the fastest speed anyone recorded 💨
🏆 But Just Wing It take it on points. Heat wins banked early, bonus points collected, 45 to 42. Three points is the whole weekend 😮
🐎 Ern'd it kept fronting up. Their 77.81 in Heat 2 was three and a half seconds up on their opener 👊
⚡ ADVANCED
🔒 TOTAL LOCKOUT. Hot Ta Trot led from first heat to last and won every one. Four from four 🏆
🚀 That 60.67 opener is the fastest Advanced run of the weekend and the only sub-61 in the class.
🎯 Consistency award to Ice Ice Baby. 65.88 then 65.84. FOUR HUNDREDTHS apart 📏
🐎 And Izzy Howell rode BOTH of them. First on Allure, second on Tara, different boarder each time. Top two in the class, same rider. Ridiculous 🙌
🌟 INTERMEDIATE
👏 Leigh Perry & Kat Vincent on Hope Kia take the class on 43 points. Their 71.97 opener stood as their best, and they kept coming back out through a brutal final heat. Not a single card against their name ✨

😱 TWENTY-EIGHT HUNDREDTHS. That's the gap now. Heat 1 was three tenths. Heat 3 is even tighter. These two just will not let each other go 🤝
📈 And both of them found serious pace. Just Wing It 3.93 quicker than Heat 2. Section 89 1.55 quicker. Everyone is getting faster as the day goes on 🚀
🐎 Hot Ta Trot still control Advanced, though 62.78 is their slowest of the three heats. Ice Ice Baby stay right there behind them, under five seconds back 👀
🟨 Still nothing on the yellow cards. Three heats, clean sheet 👏
