Supervisor Vacancy

MDS Ltd are a licensed asbestos removal specialist based in the Northeast and undertake work on a national level.

We are seeking an Asbestos Removal Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate competence in Licensed Asbestos Removal along with a sound working knowledge of industry guidance and the effective supervision of removal projects.

Main Duties:

• Assist the Manager/Director as necessary to ensure client requirements are met

• Ensure all works carried out on site are compliant with HSE regulations, convey the information contained within the site-specific risk assessment/method statement to site personnel to ensure full understanding

• Create clear and concise site documentation for both licensed and non-licensed removal works.

• Ensure that all team members are aware of health and safety requirements and undertake all tasks in accordance with site specific risk assessments and method statements,

• Supervise the work of operatives ensuring work is undertaken to the highest standards and in accordance with Companies/client’s specifications

• Ensure sub-contract Companies and labour are competent in the tasks that are required of them

• Contribute to operational meetings, ensuring decisions and actions are carried out and communicated to appropriate personnel via tool box talks and supervisor briefings

Requirements:

• Preferred 3 Years or more experience

• In date Licensed Supervisor Training, Face Fits/Mask Test and Asbestos Medical.

• Full UK Driving License

• Additional Training of IPAF, PASMA preferred but not essential.

Asbestos Awareness Week UK

Although asbestos was banned in the UK over 25 years ago, it remains one of the biggest workplace health risks today. According to the Health and Safety Executive, around 5,000 people still die each year from asbestos-related diseases, making it the leading cause of work-related deaths in the country.

These figures are not just statistics—they represent individuals, families, and communities affected by preventable and unnecessary exposure. Diseases such as mesothelioma, which is almost exclusively caused by asbestos, continue to claim lives. What makes this particularly challenging is the long latency period; symptoms can take decades to appear, meaning the risks of past exposure are still being felt today.

It is estimated that more than 1.5 million buildings across the UK still contain asbestos. As a result, anyone working in or maintaining buildings constructed before 2000 could unknowingly be at risk if asbestos-containing materials are disturbed.

Under Regulation 10 of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, those whose work could foreseeably disturb the fabric of a building and expose them to asbestos or who supervise or influence the work must receive asbestos awareness training.

This week serves as an important reminder that awareness, suitable training and effective management are critical in preventing exposure. Identifying asbestos, following correct procedures, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations can save lives.

This week, Multi Discipline Solutions Ltd have been assisting a Local Authority with licensed asbestos removal works as part of a planned refurbishment programme, ensuring properties are made safe and compliant prior to redevelopment.

With all works carried out inline with industry guidance, completed within the initial scope of work and timeframe. Well done to the team involved on site, consistently working to the highest standard in all aspects of the removal work.

MDS were recently asked to carry out an Asbestos Refurbishment Survey on a rundown commercial property. After arriving on site, it was clear the property had already been stripped back to its shell. Whilst the surveyors were conducting a pre-survey inspection, large traces of Asbestos Insulating Board debris were discovered.

Unfortunately, around 5000 people lose their life to asbestos related illnesses each year, people do not understand the severity of asbestos exposure.
