Today I watched Frankie on Loose Women say “as soon as you mention it’s a wedding to a cake maker they at least triple the price!” whilst laughing.
This is absolutely BS!!!! Actually to most cake makers it’s them charging properly or closer to true cost…as in they are paying themselves almost minimum wage as many don’t pay themselves even this!
I’m extremely passionate about getting rid of this “oh it’s just cake” mentality that is out there.
It’s so disrespectful and degrading to the highly skilled professionals that work in the industry I love!
I’m not going to sit back and let devaluing flippant comments like this continue.
Cake designers work extremely hard, continually learning new skills to stay current and we have huge responsibility to execute the visions of clients have.
We as cake designers and creators of edible artworks…are absolutely worthy of charging for our skills properly!
What qualifies me to say this? I’m a multi award winning cake designer, with over 12 yrs experience in the industry. The lack of respect and recognition for the skills & work we do is disgusting. Many cake makers are not earning even minimum wage…certainly far under it for celebration cakes. I pretty sure most people wouldn’t work for less than minimum wage.
Happy to speak more about this should anyone be open to hearing about our industry (or the wedding industry as a whole) in connection to this.

The last cake of 2022 was collected yesterday for a surprise 80th Birthday - a chocolate sponge filled with vanilla buttercream covered in chocolate gnache and decorated with guitar and amplifier for a musician. They loved it # # #

This weekend I entered two categories at Cake International - the largest and most prestigious Cake Competition in the world and achieved 2 Bronze Awards in Wedding Cake and Sungle Tier Celebration Cake categories
