We had a great club social yesterday at . Children, teens, parents all having fun and enjoying each other’s company. Martial arts training is often tough but we also ensure our members develop socially as well as physically.

Our younger members love a game-based warm up! This one encourages movement along with self-control (the hitting aspect). The lying position was progressed to include floor-based exercises to activate specific muscle groups and add a challenge.

Training was a little different for our junior members this morning. We welcomed a guest instructor from judo to introduce safe falling techniques and basic throws. It was a pleasure to have Rob Holden of Karu Kyoshi Kan (3Ks) Judo Club at our club.

Rob taught our members break fall techniques, judo basics and some beginner throws. He highlighted the importance of being able to fall safely in martial arts and outside in the real world.

We are hugely grateful to Rob for giving up his morning to deliver the session. All ages and belt levels took something away for future use.

The thinking behind this session:

1. Everybody falls over at some point. If you know how to fall safely then injuries can be reduced.
2. At more senior grade levels we cover takedowns and throws. For this to be effective and safe, partners need to be able to fall correctly.
3. At Ki Taekwondo we are not afraid of sampling other arts and adding their elements to what we do. Continuous development is important. In this instance, knowledge of judo = more effective takedowns and less risk of injury.

Fitness, floor exercises and destruction for our teens and adults this morning. Fitness for general health and well-being. Floor exercises to work on kick chambers and leg control. Destruction to focus the mind and test accuracy and technique. A good session on return from a short Easter break!
